The Woods Hole Film Festival is a showcase of independent film spotlighting the work of emerging filmmakers from around the world. We emphasize cinematography in the film selection process. We also promote the work of WHFF alumni both during and after the Festival. In addition to screening over 150 works over the 8 day Festival, we offer hands-on workshops geared toward both veteran and emerging filmmakers. We have two year-round screening series which offer a potential second screening opportunity for Festival filmmakers. All categories are competitive. Some categories are juried. Audience and Jury awards given in all competitive categories.

We offer audience awards and jury awards in select categories. We offer prizes annually, but they are TBD.

COVID-19 Update, April 24, 2020. The Woods Hole Film Festival will present the 29th Woods Hole Film Festival from July 25 - August 1, 2020. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the continued state of emergency in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, we have worked hard to create an event that will offer all of the features and elements of the Woods Hole Film Festival, but in a virtual environment. If it is safe and possible, we may also present in-person aspects of the Festival as well during the 29th Woods Hole Film Festival. However, given the uncertainty about whether this will be possible, this determination will be made at a later date. Please check back for updates. The Woods Hole Film Festival is a signatory of the Seed & Spark 2020 Festival Survival Pledge. Filmmaker attendance strongly encouraged, whether for the virtual or in-person Festival. Filmmaker must assist Festival in film promotion. Category, screening time, date, venue and format determination is at sole discretion of Festival. Woods Hole Film Festival is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival and for promotional purposes. If accepted, filmmaker will be available to help promote the film. The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations. The applicant shall indemnify and hold harmless Woods Hole Film Festival from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening media entered.

Once a film is selected as an official selection by the Festival, a film may not be withdrawn from the Festival by the filmmaker for any reason whatsoever. Filmmaker agrees to comply with all Festival rules and requirements and abide by Festival code of conduct. An official selection offer may be revoked by the Festival if a filmmaker does not comply with all Festival rules and requirements.

Film may not screen in a non-Festival screening within 90 miles of the Woods Hole Film Festival 3 months prior and 1 month post Festival. Exceptions may apply, but must be approved by WHFF in order for the film to maintain its status as an official selection in competition.

Great to have our world premiere at Woods Hole FF! While any other year would have been fantastic to visit, I was impressed by the digital/virtual nature of accessing films and freedom to watch when I could (wish I'd had more time!). I appreciated the Filmmaker chat setups, even for the short films. Would have loved to see more networking opportunities up front to engage and meet other filmmakers online, and cross-promote, but with the unusual nature of this year I thing you guys pulled off a great set of films regardless.

Ya'll were fantastic at your replies to emails, tech questions, and everything in between. Wonderful communication.

The one thing I wished there was more of was a social media flex. BUT that's a minor nitpick. The film selection was great. Thanks for having us!

Even though it was virtual this year, Woods Hole was one of my best film festival experiences as a filmmaker. There was excellent communication from the staff. They wanted to make sure everyone had a good time and for me they succeeded. I thought their filmmaker chats were an awesome idea and they helped the short film cast & crews feel more involved. Even though it was virtual, the amount of work and dedication towards the festival shown by the staff made it feel more like a theatrical experience. It made me feel sad that it wasn't in person because I'm sure it would have been even better. I really hope I get to attend the festival in person one day!

The people at woods hole were terrific, with the strange conditions of COVID19 and making everything online it was still a great festival experience. They had great communication and were a lot of fun, worth submitting to!

Our film, IN THE MIRRORS, was included in this year's virtual festival. Despite the pandemic that made the festival this year online one, everything went smoothly and we had a great time attending Woods Hole Film Festival! We feel encouraged and supported. Thank you, Woods Hole Film Festival, for an amazing time!
