VRBOSKA FILM FESTIVAL is a 4-day festival of Croatian and international film, which took place for the first time in August 2024. Vrboska is a picturesque, seaside town on the island of Hvar, and we want to bring the art of cinema into this beautiful setting. Our goal is to promote exceptional emerging filmmakers, educate the local audience on film art, and provide a 3-day stop motion animation workshop for children.
The festival competition program consists of short fiction and animated films. Three expert members of our jury will award the best film in each of the two categories. Additionally, a selection of short films and one feature fiction film will be screened outside the competition.
The children's animation workshop will start on the first day in the afternoon hours, at the new Fisherman's museum in Vrboska, and will continue for the next two days.
The screenings will all be at the open-air location in front of the Tvrđava (Fortress), starting from 9 p.m. The entrance is free. After the screenings, each night, there will be a gathering with the filmmakers at the local bar nearby, along the seafront.
On the opening night, the main program will consist of a couple of short films in competition.
The second night will be reserved for the short fiction and animated films in the competition, and, of course, the gathering with the filmmakers.
On the third and closing night, there will be an award ceremony for the best short fiction and animated film, along with screenings of several short films outside the competition.
A three-member jury of film authors and artists gives out statuettes of the “Palm tree”, a symbol of Vrboska and our festival, to the best short fiction film and the best short animated film.
