ABOUT:
VideoFest is the Future (VideoFest) is a film festival hosted in Portland, Oregon created by Video is the Future. Video is the Future is an indie film & photography studio located in Portland, Oregon that is committed to growing the local indie film community. The festival will showcase music videos/experimental films under 5 minutes and indie short films under 25 minutes of any genre at the Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St, Portland, OR 97202) on August 24th 2022.

Some stats about year 1:
Year one sold about 170 tickets and had about 130 people in attendance.
52 films were submitted!
15 films were chosen!
The festival screening time was 2.5 hours with the entire rental of the theater being about 4 hours (for concessions and awards).

THE EXPERIENCE:
Our film festival will showcase narrative short films and provide networking opportunities for filmmakers. The festival will also be a place for producers and distributors to scout up and coming talent. It will be approximately 3 hours long with ample time for socializing and viewing. Up to 222 people will be in attendance. Selected filmmakers will have free entry with a +1. Additional tickets will be sold to: community members, friends, family, and connoisseurs of fine cinema. Filmmakers will be featured on social media platforms and physical awards will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in various categories after the screening.

SUBMISSIONS:
Submit work you've made in the last two years via FilmFreeway for a chance to be shown in VideoFest is the Future.

Early Bird Deadline: Feb 2nd - $20
Regular Deadline: May 6th- $35
Final Deadline: July 11th - $45

Semi-finalists will receive free entry and a +1 ticket. Tickets are $15 at the door for the general audience.

ELIGIBILITY:
Music Videos and Experimental Films must be under 5 minutes
Narrative Films must be under 25 minutes in length.
All films made in the last two years are eligible, regardless if they have distribution or have been released prior at other film festivals or online streaming (I.E. Youtube/Vimeo). Films made in and outside of Oregon are encouraged to apply.

Categories for submission include:
Music Videos/Experimental: Musical videos or otherwise non narrative films under 5 minutes
Horror/Sci-fi: Scary, frightening, futuristic narrative films under 25 minutes
Comedy: Comedic, intended to create laughs, goofy, funny narrative films under 25 minutes
Drama: Drama, serious, or otherwise narrative films under 25 minutes

SUBMISSIONS:
Upon being selected as a semi-finalist, video delivery will be done via upload to a Google Forms. 1080p render in .mp4 or .mov file required. We do not take responsibility for incomplete or untimely uploads.
Upon submission, filmmakers hereby grant the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the festival for promotional purposes. The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby grants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations. The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless VideoFest is the Future from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.

Judging: 5 community judges + 1 video is the future representative will watch and score each film based on story, acting, cinematography, and uniqueness/enjoyability.

Work submitted must be made in the last two years.
We will be showing the semi-final selections in person in Portland, Oregon at The Clinton Street Theater. Submitted films do not need to be exclusive. They can be submitted to other festivals and public on streaming services. Films can be submitted from any country.
Format:
-Music videos and narrative short films must be under 5 minutes
-Comedy, Horror/scifi, Drama narrative short films must be under 25 minutes
-All films must be submitted as a secure online screener (i.e. Vimeo/youtube).
-Semi-finalists will be asked for a 1080p .mp4 or .mov file of their work
I understand that:
-Incomplete entries will not be considered and fees are non-refundable.
-Submission of my work authorizes Video is the Future to use the work for exhibition and/or publicity related to the festival
-I give Video is the Future the right to advertise my selected work as advertising for the festival on social media channels
-I indemnify and hold harmless VideoFest is the Future from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.
