The Festival started its activity as a National Festival in 1983. Over the years, the Festival has changed, until it has opened to International authors in 2013.

Ever since its foundation, it takes place in San Giovanni Valdarno, in the heart of Tuscany, between Florence, Siena and Arezzo.

The Festival consists in an Official Competition dedicated to feature and short movies in all genres, with also a special section for animated movies especially dedicated to very young audience, in addition to the official selection there are special events, special screenings for students and the section “Spazio Toscana” reserved to Tuscan productions or to directors who were born or live in Tuscany.

Winners of the competition are chosen by a highly qualified panel of judges who award prizes to the best short film and best feature film.

One of the most anticipated events is the Premio Marzocco awarded to the career of an author whose works have been appreciated all over the world. In the latest editions it's been awarded to Gianni Amelio (director), Roberto Andò (Director), Marco Tullio Giordana (director), Pupi Avati (director), Vittorio Storaro (cinematographer), Antonio Capuano (director) Marco Bellocchio (director), Carlo Verdone (director and actor), Abel Ferrara (director).

- Premio "Giuria Giovani" - To the best film, awarded by a giury of students of the local schools.
- Premio "Cineclub Fedic Sangiovannese" - Best film produced in Tuscany or made by a director who's born or lives in Tuscany.
- Premio "Diari di Cineclub" - Best film, awarded by a jury nominated by the Magazine.
- Premio "A.N.P.I." - Best film that represents the historical and ideological values that founded the Italian Costitution.
- Premio "Franco Basaglia" - Best film that represents the themes of mental health.
- Premio "Consulta Giovani" - Best film with political, social and civil contribution.
- Premio "Accademia della Nunziata" - to the best film, awarded by a giury of the Accademia della Nunziata.
- Premio "Libera Università del Valdarno" - to the best film, awarded by a giury of the University of the Third Age.
- Premio "ValdarnoKids" - to the best short animation film, awarded by the students of the local schools.

*Cash prizes are given in the form of a contribution to the proposing artist.

Please read the regulations carefully. Submission to the Festival implies full acceptance of these regulations.

ART. 1:
Only films correctly submitted and accompanied by the submission fee by the established deadline will be considered for selection. VCFF reserves the right to disqualify any submission that does not meet all of these requirements.

ART. 2:
Short Films: This category is reserved for films with a running time of less than 40 minutes (including end credits).
Feature Films: This category is reserved for films with a running time of more than 40 minutes (including end credits).

ART. 3:
The submission fee must be paid through the FilmFreeway platform. VCFF does not offer refunds of submission fees under any circumstances. Films submitted without payment of the fee will be disqualified.

ART. 4 :
VCFF accepts online screeners only. Any submission sent via any type of physical media will not be considered for selection.
Submitted films must be uploaded to the FilmFreeway platform, provided as password-protected Vimeo links, or as private/unlisted videos (e.g. YouTube).

N.B. – VCFF does not accept screeners via email; if the password changes during the selection period, VCFF must be informed by email. If a film is submitted with an incorrect password, the submission will not be considered for selection. If the screener is not received by the deadline, the submission will be disqualified. The submitted version of the film will be the only version considered for selection.

ART. 5:
In order to be considered, all submissions must meet the following requirements:
• They must have been completed after January 1st, 2025.
• Films whose original language is not Italian must be submitted for selection with English and/or Italian subtitles.

N.B. – VCFF reserves the right to select films that do not comply with the above requirements. Guaranteeing a regional (Tuscany) or national (Italy) premiere at VCFF at the time of submission is a preferential requirement in the event of equal artistic evaluation.

ART. 6:
It is the sole responsibility of the filmmakers to:
• Obtain authorization from the rights holders of all copyrighted and/or trademarked content and materials included in the film.
• Clear all film content from any actual or potential legal claims or disputes, including, without limitation, claims based on defamation, libel, invasion of privacy, violation of publicity rights, misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of confidentiality, breach of confidential relationships, and breach of express or implied contracts (“Third-Party Claims”).

VCFF shall not be held responsible for any unauthorized inclusion of:
• Any copyrighted and/or trademarked content or materials within or related to the submitted project, including any content or materials that constitute or may constitute the basis for any third-party claims for copyright and/or trademark infringement, trademark dilution, or unfair competition.
• Any content or material within or related to the submitted film that constitutes or may constitute the basis for any third-party claims.
If a submitted film contains unauthorized materials as described above, VCFF reserves the right not to consider the film or to withdraw it from the confirmed program.

ART. 7:
All applicants will be notified of the outcome by the end of August 2026.
VCFF does not pay screening fees for the film in the official competition.
If the film wins one of the official awards, the presence of the winner or an authorized representative is required at the awards ceremony on October 10th, 2026.
If contact details change during the selection period, VCFF must be informed by email.

If the film is selected, by no later than September 20th, 2026, the film must be delivered to VCFF in one of the following formats for screening:
• Short Films: H.264 (MOV/MP4 file)
• Feature Films: DCP | H.264 (MOV/MP4 file)

At least 3 stills from the film (jpg/jpeg format, 300 dpi) must be submitted and will be used for the production of official Festival materials (catalogue/promotional materials/press releases/social networks).

N.B. – Films whose original language is not Italian must be provided for screening with Italian subtitles.

ART. 8:
Selected films may be used by VCFF for additional promotional screenings of the Festival, all of which will be free of charge and open to the public.
