Valjevski Filmski Susreti / VFS is a regional film festival held annually in Valjevo, Serbia.
The festival originated from a small group of friends and colleagues who valiantly fought to bring the magic of cinema back to their hometown, which didn't have a film theater from 2003 to 2017. A new theater opened, and the once small local event grew into a Regional film festival featuring and guesting authors from all over the Balkan region.
Our focus is empowering young authors and providing the local community with opportunities to watch great films that perhaps wouldn't have made it to their screens otherwise. Equally important, we are devoted to supporting film education, with many successful film workshops and lectures over the past decade.
The main selection is made of award-winning feature films from all over the Balkans, including fiction films, documentaries, as well as animated and experimental films. This is followed with a regional short-fiction film competition program, educational panels, workshops, and lectures.
The entrance to all on-site festival activities is free of charge.
The festival's competition program is carefully handcrafted every year by our team and collaborators. Two separate three-member juries decide on the following awards:
1. The Leman Award, given to the best short-fiction film, in memory of Valjevo born Yugoslav screenwriter, director and first assistant director Slobodan Golubović Leman.
2. The Young Author Award, given to the best screenwriter, director, actor, cinematographer, editor, producer or composer, supported and funded by Valjevo born director Zoran Đorđević and cinematographers and photographers Dušan Đorđić and Nenad Stevanović.
The winners are awarded statuettes, diplomas, cash, and other prizes.
