CALLING ALL TEEN FILMMAKERS! If you are in middle school or high school and have a short film that focuses on issues of racial issues, equity, justice or human rights then please submit your film by midnight, December 12th, 2022.

We are looking for short films that explore, acknowledge, challenge, disrupt, and shine a light on these issues.

All winning films will premiere at: “Unfinished Work”
Advancing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's Legacy of Equity, Justice & Human Rights
Virtual Event - January 12th at 6 pm, 2023.

This community event is hosted by New Roads School in conjunction with The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Westside Coalition featuring young orators, filmmakers, musicians, and artists to move forward the Legacy of Dr. King.

Impact Films (30 seconds - 2 minutes)
PSAs, Short informational films or films that invite the viewer to take a desired action.

AWARDS:
Best Short Film (middle school)
Best Short Film (high school)
Best Impact Film (middle school)
Best Impact Film (high school)
Audience Choice Award

Prizes will be available for winners.

COMPETITION RULES

RULES:
All subject matter must be related to racial equality
Open to U.S. and International Students
Films must be under 5 minutes  
Films must be made by students in Middle School or Upper School
Adult participation should be limited to coaching or acting.
All music, images, and videos must be cleared or copyright-free.
By submitting your film to our Festival you grant us the right to use excerpts in our promotion on social media or our websites.
Films in languages other than English must include English subtitles
Films must be submitted through FilmFreeway by 11:59 pm PST on Dec. 12th, 2022

JUDGING:
The films will be judged and scored.
The films with the highest scores will be selected and screened at the festival.  
Judging criteria include Impact, Theme, Creativity/Originality, Vision, Technical Skills (Cinematography, Editing, Sound), Coherency.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES AND DATES
The film competition is free to submit to.
Films will begin to be accepted on August 26th, 2022.
The final date for submission is 11:59 pm on Dec. 12th, 2022 (no exceptions)
Selected films will screen at the virtual event on January 12th, 2023 @ 6 pm

You’ll want to make sure your film is online on either youtube/Vimeo or google drive.

NOTIFICATION DATE
Selected films and filmmakers will be notified on or around Dec. 30th, 2022 via email
We reserve the right to disqualify any film that does not meet the above eligibility requirements.
