Tyana Rendič is a Slovenian filmmaker based in Ljubljana, working across art film, narrative short film, animation, and new media. Her interest in cinema began during her studies at the Secondary School of Media and Graphic Arts in Ljubljana, and she continued her education at the University of Ljubljana, Academy of Fine Arts and Design, where she graduated with highest honours and is currently completing her master’s degree. Alongside her studies, she has further developed her film practice through coursework at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, as well as through hands-on experience in professional film and media production environments.
Her work is rooted in personal experience and explores psychological, emotional, and social themes, with a strong focus on introspection and subjective perception. Her 2022 short film Mali jaz, Egotrip marked her first internationally recognized work, receiving multiple awards and festival selections. She later completed Paraphilia (2023), further expanding her narrative and visual language, while her most recent project, Noesis, continues her exploration of inner states, artistic identity, and perception.
Her current artistic and theoretical interests focus on the relationship between reality and art, particularly through the concepts of “pure” and “impure” cinema. She draws inspiration from film theory and thinkers concerned with cinematic realism and restraint, such as André Bazin and Robert Bresson, whose ideas inform both her visual language and narrative approach.
She is currently developing her practice as a director, screenwriter, and producer, and is presently working in collaboration with the Slovenian Film Centre on her latest project, actively engaging with contemporary independent and academic film communities.
