We are a film festival made by and for queer people! We seek films created by queer filmmakers, of any content, and provide a platform for exhibition of the very best.

In 2020, we will be switching to a virtual format until it is safe to hold in-person events. Our annual festival typically takes place at the end of September over 2 days at an independent theater in Detroit. We love to host you, the winning filmmakers, for Q&As with the public!

For the past 4 years, we have put together an incredible festival hosting films from across the globe, from world premieres to city favorites, we show a wide selection of films by queer artists like you.

Our Mission: Trans Stellar Film Festival encourages diversity and queer agency in art by promoting the exhibition of films created by queer people. We seek films by queer filmmakers with a variety of content and form and provide a platform for their exhibition to the public and industry professionals.

Our values include diversity, inclusion, agency, accessibility, and community.

Please contact us at lauren.bc@transstellarfilmfestival.com about fee waivers or discounts available.

Trans Stellar is for LGBT+ and queer filmmakers to submit any film of any genre/style. Films do not have to have "queer content" to be considered. Due to accessibility concerns, we are currently unable to screen pornography.

Submitted films:
—MUST be made by an LGBT+ and/or queer person*
—MUST be in English, or have English subtitles
—NOT disparage or police any minorities or identities
—NOT have any fees associated with the rights to show

*LGBT+ includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, nonbinary, pansexual, asexual, genderfluid, and other identities. Queer encompasses all of these identities, as well as any identities that fall “between” or “outside” these labels. Queer is the preferred term for TSFF, however if you submit and do not wish to be labeled under the queer umbrella, please let us know.

*The filmmaker is someone who maintains significant creative control over the content of the image and the story. This position is usually director. If you hold a different position, but feel you meet these qualifications, feel free to submit and your case will be considered.

By submitting your film, the Filmmaker agrees to the Terms & Conditions available at www.transstellarfilmfestival.com/terms

It was a great pleasure for me to participate and have the World Premiere of one of my video in this festival. I hope in the coming years to participate again, and to be able to be present in person to embrace the wonderful staff!

Really happy to be included in this fest and appreciate the accessible entry fee. Did not attend though because communication was sparse and could not get any travel info as an out-of-town filmmaker. Received acceptance email but no additional screening/festival details and inquiring emails went unanswered.
