This film festival is a long-time dream of my now late husband. He had a passion for the independent filmmaker and wanted to see them get every opportunity to showcase their hard work. We can think of no better way to honor him than to carry forward with his passion and help those he cared so much about.

The festival was originally hosted by the HuuuH? Podcast, which was as eclectic as it sounds. Our first love is horror, but we can just as easily enjoy a flick for the whole family. As homeschoolers at heart a well-done documentary is never off the table.

The festival is now hosted by The MTD Arthouse Theatre, a year-round independent film house born from this festival and community it has created.

Bring what you have and let us showcase your heart.

We also want to foster the love of film for potential future filmmakers, so we are including a section for youth submissions, starting at the age of 13. From the ages of 13-18 they can submit a short from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, and ages 19-23 can submit a short from 30 seconds to 15 minutes. The youth submissions will have a theme: Be Decent To Each Other. All other rules apply to these shorts. If you know a budding filmmaker, please let them know of this opportunity.

The Fedora (Trophy)

As we grow, I am sure that our rules and terms will expand; but for now, they are simple.

1. The films you submit must be your original work with all copyright laws for any music having been adhered to.

2. In order to place your film in the proper category, please make sure to select the genre that best fits your vision for the film; we are aware at times films can fit in multiple genres and we want to place them where the filmmakers intended them to be.

3. Advise of rating (Ex. G, PG, R) with submissions so they can be slotted at the appropriate times.

4. All films will be reviewed prior to the event; submission does not guarantee a slot at the festival.

5. All gratuitous violence, language, and sexual content will result in refusal to the More Than Decent Film Festival. We understand that to tell some stories all three of these are required to some degree, however an overabundance is unacceptable.

While we weren't able to make it back east for the festival, we really appreciated the clear communication and support from the festival. I love that this festival is doing and it meant a lot for our project to be selected.

First off we are humbled and honored that our film was selected for this Festival. We were super impressed with the selection of films selected by the panel for this festival, it made for great watching and discussion of the films. This is a great intimate venue. The hosts were responsive to any question, any need. Absolutely the best bang for your buck!

  • I had big plans to attend this festival but suddenly at the near last minute I was unable to attend, which truly upset me. I was looking forward to meeting Michele in person and seeing our film, "The Promise" on the big screen in Newberry. I am however, extremely grateful that she and her team saw something very special in our film and named it BEST COMEDY FEATURE. Thank you so much for the incredible honor! Best wishes for many more years of success.
