"Stay Gold" is a reference to Robert Frost’s poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay." The phrase became widely known through The Outsiders, a novel by S.E. Hinton and its 1983 film adaptation. In the story, Johnny Cade tells Ponyboy to "stay gold," referencing the poem and urging him to hold on to his innocence, goodness, and hope despite life's hardships.
Meaning of "Stay Gold"
The phrase comes from the last line of Frost’s poem, which reflects on how beauty, youth, and innocence are fleeting:
Nothing Gold Can Stay
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf,
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day,
Nothing gold can stay.
The poem suggests that all good and pure things eventually fade. When Johnny tells Ponyboy to "stay gold," he means to hold on to his idealism and not become hardened by the struggles of life. It’s a message about preserving one's goodness despite the inevitable changes and hardships of growing up.
Monthly Film Showcase first originated years ago and had its first night of screenings of local films at a place called She Theater in Tulsa, Oklahoma. What started out as a grassroots movement to help locals, is now growing into something bigger.
In 2024 it was held Every Tuesday Screening Locations: The Hunt Club, Mondays at the Gypsy Coffee House and at Geaux Shows Movie Theater on the Last Saturdays of Every Month.
The original idea was to be different and local centric fostering an environment of connectedness with the film community and audiences, and in a lot of ways we still are and strive to be innovative. Films go on a yearlong rotation being screened at least once a month.
"The Outsiders " a Tulsa made film by Francis Ford Coppola Starring Tom Cruise, C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Emillio Estevez, Diane Lane, Tom Waits, even Nicolas Cage was in the movie, so many stars got their start here and so many remain active but one thing is for certain the legacy of S.E. Hinton and the rest are cemented in cinematic history and in Tulsa, Oklahoma which is becoming a vibrant hub for independent filmmaking.
Today the showcase has developed from a grassroots movement into an international film festival we now call Stay Gold Film Festival.
Currently we still function as we did with the showcase as far as THE 24 US CITY 1000 dollar short film completions which will expand to different cities in the Unted States, giving filmmakers across the nation at a chance as selection, representation, distribution, and theatrical exhibition, completion, awards & now spreading the furthest reaches in order to bring everyone together and spread the Stay Gold attitude across the Globe with our now International Short Film Awards!

WHO IS LISANDRO BOCCACCI? Well, let me introduce myself, I was originally born in Bueno Aires, Argentina. My parents moved around the world but settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma when I was a child... essentially grew up in theater and with a camera in my hand and my nose in books. Completely obsessed with the craft of screenwriting, storytelling, acting, theatrics, audiences, story physics, screenplays... I've devoted my life in the pursuit of understanding these crafts and sharpening my own talent all fields. The reason I'm known as Oklahoma's Indie Auteur, because in 2010 I won the Indie Auteur Award at Bare Bones International Film Festival in Muskogee, Oklahoma ran by Sharon and Oscar Ray, running the film festival for 25 years and I consider them a huge influence on me as well as mentors and community examples. I was not only the youngest person to receive the award but also the only Oklahoman male to win it in the 25 years it has been a film festival, and is the longest running festival in Oklahoma, coincidently, I am celebrating my 25th anniversary as an indie filmmaker, with 17 feature films, under my belt, 3 projects released this year 2024 alone, I've just released my 17th feature film, Stray Kids that has taken me 16 years to make and release. Aside from working on my own, I've also volunteered my time on other projects in town and volunteer my time at a local movie theater. My intention is to build a national presence of new Indie Auteurs on a National Scale. I thank you for the support and interest, I whole heartedly, hope you submit, I will watch and curate all the films and will be in charge of screening and promoting your work, and it will be my honor to serve you all and to connect with you all and build bridges and connections.
Visit IMDB and search Lisandro Boccacci for more information on him.
