THE DOWNTOWN FESTIVAL is a celebration of emerging and established independent artists across film, music, art, and culture in New York City. In the spirit of “downtown”, our programming reflects a distinctive convergence of creative disciplines. The Festival showcases up-and-coming talent alongside visionary icons through dynamic and exciting film screenings, music performances, panel discussions, and special events. Taking place across various venues in Lower Manhattan, The Downtown Festival is a melting pot of ideas, inspiration, and collaboration. Attendees are invited to experience a diverse array of voices and unique perspectives on the forefront of artistic expression.

In our 2nd year, we’re excited to welcome bold work and fresh ideas from filmmakers of all backgrounds. Whether you're an emerging voice or an established artist, we’re looking for stories that take risks, challenge norms, and reflect a unique point of view. Our festival celebrates originality in form, perspective, and identity — we invite work that delves into a wide range of lived experiences, cultural viewpoints, and unconventional, inventive modes of storytelling. If your film is daring, personal, or hard to categorize, it just might find its home here.

All genres are encouraged to submit. World and New York premieres are preferred but not required.

We consider films in any language, from anywhere in the world. If your film is not in English, make sure it has English subtitles where necessary.

The Downtown Festival will show preference for work not available online prior to The Downtown Festival's dates. Films that will be available online prior may still submit, but should mention any online availability in their submission materials, and understand that this availability will be taken into consideration during the programming process.

Exhibition formats: DCP and 16 & 35mm preferred, high-quality ProRes accepted.
