The Tanah Lado Film Festival originated from an idea that emerged during a casual conversation within a newly formed community. From that discussion came the initiative to organize a festival in the world of Indonesian cinema that, until now, has rarely been explored. Moreover, in Lampung, no one has previously initiated a documentary film festival like this.

Documentary films have distinctive characteristics that set them apart from other audiovisual products. They possess significant strength as a medium that educates, encourages reflection, and transcends the boundaries of space and time. Amid the powerful flow of mass media, documentary films play an important role as an independent medium for expressing aspirations.

Thus, a documentary film festival called the Tanah Lado Festival was established. The emergence of ADN as an association that joined and collaborated with DEKAVILM, a documentary association, also contributed to the formation and development of this festival.
