I belong to a small but famous city of India, Agra, famously known as the city of Taj.
I was born in a middle-class family with an Indian middle-class understanding of carrier choices ie. doctor, engineer, or a teacher. I also choose maths as in my elementary school. But later the curious creative in me left the path of Engineering college to pursue Fine Arts and I joined a prestigious Indian University known as Jamia Millia Islamia for my graduation in Fine arts. There I explored paintings, applied arts, sculptures, and other forms of art which led me to explore the world of films eventually and I started watching world cinema. Till that time, I was unaware of any educational professional training to learn cinema. But my fate took me to basic classes offered by two documentary film-makers of India. There I realized about the existence of the Film Institute of India and eventually happen to apply and selected there. Since then I am trying to learn and understand more about cinema, some by watching and reading about the masters. Some by trying to learn on the job, as presently I am working as an Editor in Bollywood, the Mumbai Film Industry of India. Very recently I tried to explore as a director myself through my debut documentary film, Nothing But a Human. I am hoping to collaborate with more filmmakers in the role of both the Editor and Director both. That's my story in brief. Thanks for reading.
I am a painter as well and mostly use oil and acrylic on canvas exploring conceptual contemporary art. I started painting as a hobby though I had applied arts in my graduation which I didn't pursue to study films later. In my childhood, I was also trained in North Indian classical dance which is known as Kathak for almost ten years before I finished school.
This is Swati Jaiswal, a film-maker from India. I am professionally trained in Editing from the Film Institute of India, Pune.
