The Sunscreen Film Festival and it's Chisholm MN NORTH sister event are organized and presented by the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Film Society Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to education, economic development, informing the public about the art of visual storytelling, enhancing opportunities for local filmmakers to develop their craft and art, and increasing the public’s awareness and support of local filmmaking as a cultural and economic asset. The two festivals have separate Festival Directors, Programmers, screening teams and Board of Directors but work together to support each others events.

An aspect that makes Sunscreen even more unique is that our celebrity and special guests take part in workshops, classes, or other events that supports the festival’s mission. Everyone that attends Sunscreen is accessible and easy to interact with. Many filmmakers love the collegial atmosphere during the festival and appreciate the chance to learn from one another.

Our goal is to encourage the creation, production, and exhibition of independent film in Florida and Southern California through our educational programs and public screenings, thereby increasing awareness and support of local filmmaking as a cultural and economic asset.

This was an amazing festival with a wonderful group of people running it! The location could not have been better -- Right in Hermosa Beach and the heart of the LA South Bay. Beautiful big theater with a great sound system, with a lobby bar, and just a one-block walk from the many Pier Avenue bars and restaurants. Also loved the panel discussions with well known industry insiders. The panel discussions alone made this festival worth it, but, of course there was so much more. Thanks so much for including Abby's List in your wonderful festival!

This was the second time one of my films was shown at Sunscreen. It's a top-notch festival - great projection and sound system, supportive staff, many networking opportunities, good sized audience, warm hospitality including refreshments.

  • This festival was a fantastic way to connect with people and gain industry insight from working professionals. I had the pleasure of screening in the 2021 festival and was fortunate to meet like minded filmmakers that I will work with in the future. The festival director, Robert, was tremendous in communication and hospitality along with the rest of the crew. I highly recommend.

Sunscreen West was such a fun festival to be a part of. All of the films were surprisingly great and the low-key atmosphere was so enjoyable. Our team had a great time networking with the other filmmakers and found the quality of the projection and sound to be better than we could've anticipated.
