Sumit Sisodiya is an independent documentary filmmaker, editor, and mentor based in Delhi and Assam. He has directed and mentored numerous short, mid-length, and feature-length documentaries, specializing in documentary editing and exploring personal, social, wildlife, and cultural themes. Over the years, he has collaborated with independent production houses including Dusty Foot Productions, Tuning Fork Films, RoundGlass Sustain, Moving Images, and a range of independent projects, building a portfolio of socially relevant, impactful storytelling.
As a core member of the Green Hub Project, Sumit leads the Green Hub Video Fellowship in the Northeast. He designs the fellowship curriculum, mentors emerging filmmakers, and nurtures their creative and technical skills, helping them discover their unique storytelling voice. Through this process, he encourages fellows to explore wildlife and environmental themes, enabling their films to become powerful tools for conservation. To date, he has mentored over 250 films, many of which have influenced communities, inspired action, and contributed to local conservation efforts.
Sumit has participated in leading documentary pitching forums across South Asia, including the Let’sdoc Fellowship, DocEdge Kolkata, and Dhaka DocLab. His debut feature-length film, About My Father, received the Let’sdoc Fellowship in 2021, won the Lumière Award for Promising First-Time Filmmaker at DocEdge Kolkata in 2023, and was showcased in the Rough Cut category at Dhaka DocLab. The film also received an Honourable Mention at the East Village New York Film Festival, won Best Documentary in the 24 Hours Challenge Film Festival, and screened at prestigious venues including the Kolkata International Film Festival. His edited work, The Kumbaya Story, won the Transforming Society Award (2024) at the tve Global Sustainability Film Awards in London, UK. His recent editing work for RoundGlass Sustain, Keeper of the Last Herd, received the Cinekind Award 2025, a national honour presented by the Film Federation of India. He is currently working on two major projects: Fragile Hope, focused on Red Panda conservation, and The Turtle’s Way, highlighting sea turtle conservation in India, both scheduled for release in 2026.
Driven by a passion for authentic storytelling, Sumit draws inspiration from the people, communities, landscapes, and ecosystems he documents. His vision as a filmmaker and editor is to craft films that inform, educate, and resonate emotionally, fostering empathy, connection, and a deeper understanding of the human, social, and environmental worlds he captures.
