Street Movies Festival was found with a desire to gather movies of different genres all in one place and show them on the big screen – the movies that are connected by a common thread - they take place on roads and city streets. With such a concept, it is a one of a kind film festival.

The movies presented at the festival are very diverse in genre and include road movies (such as Paris, Texas, Thelma & Louise, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Natural Born Killers, Wild at Heart, My Own Private Idaho, Rain Man, Midnight Run, ...), movies about street gangs (like The Warriors, Snatch, Streets of Fire, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, West Side Story, 1990: The Bronx Warriors, ...), biker movies (like Easy Rider, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, Ghost Rider, Wild Hogs, ...), movies that take place on city streets (such as Taxi Driver, Night on Earth, Back to the Future, The Terminator, Blue in the Face, Clerks, Bad Boys, Speed, Italian Job, Boyz n the Hood, Crash, Written Off, ...), movies whose main action takes place on roads (such as Mad Max, The Hitcher, Final Destination, Stagecoach, Dogma, The Wages of Fear, Rebel Without a Cause, ...), city-hero movies (like New Year’s Eve, Love Actually, Notting Hill, Beverly Hills Cop, Escape from New York, ...), various races and car chases (such as The Blues Brothers, The Cannonball Run, Smokey and the Bandit, Tron, National Class Category Up to 785 Ccm, Trashin’, BMX Bandits, Bonnie and Clyde, Cobra, ...).

The first International Street Movies Festival programme has four categories.

In the main feature competitive selection named “King of the Street”, movies from the latest European and world’s production will be shown.

In the main short competitive selection named “Short Road”, short movies from the latest European and world’s production will be shown.

Within the competition programme called “Best Belgrade Short”, short films about Belgrade.will be shown.

A special treat for all street movie lovers will be a retrospective section called “Kino Classics”, in which we will have the opportunity to see some of the unforgettable films on the cinema screen.

Some of the movies will be screened in the "Out of Competition" programme.

The “King of the Street” award will be granted to the best film at the festival within the main competitive selection.
The “Short Road” award will be granted to the best short within the main competitive selection.
The “Best Belgrade Short” award will be granted to the best short film about Belgrade.
The special Lifetime Achievement award named “The King/The Queen” will also be granted.

Rules & Terms

Article 1
The purpose of the Street Movies Festival is to reveal and showcase high-quality works in order to contribute to the evolution of cinematic art and to promote the development of the audiovisual industry around the world.

Article 2
The International Street Movies Festival has sole discretion in the choosing of the films that will be screened.

Article 3
The Street Movies Festival is made up of:
• Main selection “King of the Street” feature films
• Main selection “Short Road” short films
• Special selection “Best Belgrade Short” short films
• Retrospective selection “Kino Classics” feature films
• Special screenings “Out of Competition” feature films

Article 4
To be chosen and invited to be a part of the Main Selection, films must meet the following criteria:
• have been produced in the eighteen months preceding the Festival;
• not have been screened in cinemas in Serbia;
• not have been presented in another international film festival in Serbia;
• serve the purpose of the Festival as defined in Article 1;

Article 5
To be chosen and invited to be a part of the Special Selection, films must meet the following criteria:
• have been produced in the eighteen months preceding the Festival;
• not have been screened in cinemas in Serbia;
• not have been presented in another international film festival in Serbia;
• must be about Belgrade or the most of their plot must be on Belgrade streets;
• serve the purpose of the Festival as defined in Article 1;

Article 6
Rights-holders who submit a film for selection guarantee that they have the rights allowing for this film to be screened in the framework of the Street Movies Festival. Once selected, a film cannot be withdrawn from the programme by the rights-holder other than from a decision by the Serbian courts.

The Festival shall not be held responsible in the event of a complaint from a third party. In the event of a complaint by a third party bearing on the screening of a film in selection, the Street Movies Festival cannot judge the legitimacy of said complaint, nor withdraw the Film in the absence of a decision from an enforceable judicial decision on Serbian territory.

In the event of a rights dispute bearing on a film selected, the rights-holders of the selected film shall immediately provide, upon request from the Street Movies Festival, documents justifying their rights that are in question and their response to the third party who has made the complaint.

In the case of an exceptional event, the Street Movies Festival reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to withdraw a film from its programming.

Article 7
Throughout the duration of the Festival, none of the films invited to the Main selection or the Special selection may be screened outside of the Festival before its official presentation.

Article 8
All films must be screened in their original version and subtitled in English and/or Serbian. By ‘original version’ what is meant is any language in which the film is or will be screened in its country of origin.

The Festival accepts that a version that does not exactly meet this definition may nonetheless be selected.

Serbian films must be subtitled in English on the print. Subtitling costs are to be borne by the producer. Additionally, all films whose dialogues are in a language other than English or Serbian shall be screened with electronic subtitling in English and Serbian, the projection of which will be carried out by the Festival’s service provider.

Article 9
The Jury must hand out the following awards:
• the King of the Street award;
• the Short Road award;
• the Best Belgrade Short award;
• the King / Queen award;

A single film can only receive one of the awards.

Article 10
The deadline to submit a feature film for the Main selection is July 12th, 2024.
A submission sheet must be filled in online before this date on the FilmFreeway official festival profile.
The feature films proposed for selection must be made available to the Festival or uploaded online before July 14th, 2024, midnight, at the latest.

The deadline to submit a short film for the Main selection is June 21st, 2024.
A submission sheet must be filled in online before this date on the FilmFreeway official festival profile.
The short films proposed for selection must be made available to the Festival or uploaded online before June 23rd, 2024, midnight, at the latest.

The deadline to submit a short film for the Special selection is June 21st, 2024.
A submission sheet must be filled in online before this date on the FilmFreeway official festival profile.
The short films proposed for selection must be made available to the Festival or uploaded online before June 23rd, 2024, midnight, at the latest.

Article 11
In due course, documentation for each film selected must be sent to the Films Department and a royalty-free excerpt must be supplied so that it may be included in any clips that the Street Movies Festival provides to the public before and during the event.

The definitive print of each film must be sent to the Street Movies Festival via its accredited forwarding agent prior to the beginning of the Festival.

If the prints of films do not arrive by the deadline of the beginning of the Festival, they will not be screened. This deadline is mandatory.

An emergency subtitled print must be sent to the Street Movies Festival before the Festival’s opening.

Article 12
Customs charges (both importation and re-exportation) as well as fees for the screening and translation of films presented to the members of the selection committee, with the aim of their possible selection, are to be paid entirely by the producers or authorized organizations.

Transportation and insurance fees for the prints and/or cassettes for their shipments to and from the Festival are to be paid by their owner.

The Street Movies Festival is responsible for the storage and insurance fees for the prints of the films selected, in and between the official precincts of the Festival, in Belgrade.

In the event of loss or deterioration of a print, the responsibility of the Festival may only be engaged up to the limit of the value indicated by the producer on the data sheet.

Article 13
Participation in the Street Movies Festival implies adhering to the present regulations and prior compliance with the preselection conditions.

The present regulations apply to the entirety of the Main Selection and Special Selection.
