An opportunity for young people to create their own short films, win prizes, and see their films on the big screen! No entry fee.

The top film in each category, for both Junior and Senior divisions, will win a cash prize of $75. A “Best of Fest” accolade will also be awarded for each division, winning a $100 cash prize. All winners will receive an official Strand Youth Film Fest Geiger Award trophy. Please note that each film can only win one award, meaning the film designated as “Best of Fest” will not win the best of their category.

1) Participants must live in the state of Maine.

2) All filmmakers must be 9-18 years old.

3) Filmmakers will be split into two divisions:

Junior (ages 9-13)

Senior (ages 14-18)

4) Films must be 1-5 minutes long and follow a G or PG rating.

5) Films must be entered into one of the following categories:

a. Narrative (fiction)
b. Documentary
c. Music Video
d. Animation

6) Prizes will be awarded in each film category for both divisions, plus one “Best of Fest” prize. Judges will consider:

a. Screenwriting (script and story)
b. Cinematography (camera work)
c. Editing (post-production)
d. Overall Creativity

7) Films must be submitted in .mov or .mp4 format. Note that most iPhone and iPad videos follow these formats.

8) Only one film per submitter is permitted.

9) By submitting a film, you agree to having guardian permission from each participant to show your work to a public audience.
