Director Francesca Trianni and war photographer Lynsey Addario will hold a Masterclass, focusing on their film Paradise Without People as well as the topic of documentary journalism covering refugees and war zones. Paradise Without People is a documentary about the emotional journey of two Syrian families and their asylum process in Greece as they attempt to build a new life for themselves.

Working as a photographer and journalist, Lynsey Addario has covered the conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, Darfur, South Sudan and Congo. Addario has survived two kidnappings in Iraq in 2004 and at the hands of the Gaddafi regime during the war in Libya 2011. Addario’s New York Times best-selling memoir, It’s What I Do, chronicles her personal and professional life as a photojournalist coming of age in the post-9/11 world and is set to become a movie, with the rights acquired by Steven Spielberg with Scarlett Johansson playing the role of Addario.

As a director and journalist at Time Magazine, Francesca Trianni has contributed to many of TIME’s most important stories and in 2018 her work won a World Press Photo Award for Innovative Storytelling. This year Trianni debuts as director in the feature documentary Paradise Without People. Trianni’s work has focused on the refugee crisis, which resulted in an Emmy Nomination for the Documentary Finding Home from 2016, a nomination that she shared with Lynsey Addario among others.
