London-born, former Bournemouth Film School graduate, Steve is a diverse independent film and music video maker, graphic designer, and closet storm-chaser – aka DJ Sunmonkey. Director of music videos for Jah Wobble, Fats Comet and Andi Sex Gang, including the award-winning ‘Egg Foo Woo’. Combining abstract impressionistic Super 8mm film collages, electronic percussive beats, time-lapse and stop-frame animation, his experimental films are an explosion of texture, colour and optical intensity.
Inspired by Federico Fellini & Luc Besson; Adrian Sherwood & Robert Henke, Steve’s enthusiasm for fresh ideas and experimentation continues to evolve!
In 2007 Steve was commissioned by Peter Gabriel’s Real World Productions Ltd to produce and direct the Short Film ‘Drumming Spirit’, which documented the 25th Anniversary of the WOMAD Music Festival.
In 2007 Steve joined forces with Janet Nethercott-Cable to set up EYEDiA Design – a creative graphic design Partnership, working on promotional videos, marketing and publicity projects. In 2018 EYEDiA evolved into MA’AT Films UK – to develop our Film Projects.
Steve has completed a Short Film Screenplay ‘Money Talks’, co-written with Janet. ‘Money Talks’ weighs up the value of love over money, sibling rivalry, guilt, bereavement and consequences of a life-changing Lottery win. MA’AT Films have shot and produced a 4K Teaser video to support development of this film.
Steve has also co-written a Feature Film Screenplay ‘Schumann’ with Janet, exploring madness, shamanism and hedonistic thrill ride culture, using industrial techno music as a core atmospheric element. This reached Quarter-Finals of Shore Scripts Screenwriting Competition 2017.
