Seattle AI Film Festival Rules, Terms, and Conditions
1. Eligibility
• Films submitted to the Seattle AI Film Festival ("The Festival") must be original works that are at least 50% AI generated or derived. Submitters will include a workflow and tools analysis via a form provided by The Festival.
• Third-party content (music, video, images) requires proof of proper licensing or permissions. Films that infringe on copyright or intellectual property rights are not eligible.
• Entries must be submitted by filmmakers aged 18 or older.
• Only works completed within the last two years are eligible.
• Films may not promote racism, misogyny, homophobia, gratuitous violence, or targeting a specific group or belief.
2. Film Length and Format
• Films should adhere to The Festival’s specified length requirements (e.g., shorts, features). Submissions outside the set duration limits may be disqualified.
• Submit films in high-resolution digital formats (.mp4 or .mov). Non-English films must include English subtitles.
3. Submission Guidelines
• Submissions will be accepted ONLY through FilmFreeway.
• A submission fee is required, with no refunds available. Fees vary based on submission period (e.g., early, standard, late).
• Filmmakers may submit multiple entries, with each entry complying with the rules and standards.
4. Judging Criteria
• Entries will be evaluated based on creativity, narrative strength, technical execution, and innovative use of technology. Films must be story-driven, with technology serving to enhance—not overshadow—the story.
• Each film will receive a score from the judging panel, and the highest-scoring entries will determine the winners. Judges are selected by The Festival. Judging decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
5. Rights and Permissions
• By submitting, filmmakers grant The Festival a non-exclusive, royalty-free right to use submitted films for promotional purposes, including clips or stills, in festival-related materials (e.g., website, marketing, press).
• Filmmakers retain ownership of their films but grant The Festival the right to screen the film during the event and in related promotional activities.
• Entrants are responsible for securing all necessary rights for content in their films and must indemnify The Festival against any legal claims related to copyright or ownership disputes.
6. Publicity and Promotion
• The Festival may use submitted film titles, images, and clips for publicity and promotional purposes.
• Selected filmmakers may be invited to participate in panels or Q&A sessions and are responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses.
7. Selection and Notification
• All selected films will be notified approximately two weeks before The Festival.
• Once accepted, films cannot be withdrawn from the lineup, and filmmakers must provide screening materials as required by The Festival.
8. Award Categories
• Awards will be given in various categories (e.g., Best Narrative Film, Best Documentary, Best Experimental Film).
• Monetary or in-kind prizes may be included at the sole discretion of The Festival. check the SAIFF website for updates during the submission period.
9. Disqualification
• The Festival reserves the right to disqualify any film that does not adhere to the rules or contains false information.
• Submissions deemed to violate The Festival’s guidelines, such as containing unlicensed content or offensive material, may be disqualified without refund.
10. Privacy
• Personal information collected during submissions will be used for administration and communication related to The Festival.
• By submitting, filmmakers consent to The Festival's use of their data according to its privacy policy.
11. Changes to Terms
• The Festival reserves the right to modify or update these rules at any time. Any amendments will take effect immediately and will be communicated to participants.
