Sara Alves is an award-winning director, producer, and editor, based in London. She is passionate about documentaries, thrillers and drama films focused on the female gaze, war stories, family, guilt, trauma and immigration.
The short film "The Order of Words" (2015), addressing gender inequality and domestic violence won the best film award in a campaign against hate speech led by the European Council of the European Union.
In 2023, she directed and produced her first feature film "This War of Mine" focused on female bravery during the Bosnian conflict, now in post-production.
In 2024, she produced a drama short film for the competition Ageas: Historias Seguras 'Palavras que Curam" (ENG: Healing Words) and it won Best Film Award.
This year, she completed a short documentary "Always on my mind" about belonging with Ukrainian refugees who shared their letters and footage captured before and during the war. In 2025, the won 2 awards (Best Direction and Best Story) and 1 honourable mention.
Sara has two short scripts looking for funding at the moment. One of them, H(a)unted, her concept, written by Sydonie Calvert, already won Best Short Script at European Short Awards 2025 and Best Thriller Screenplay at Best Script Award - London and Semifinalist, Filmmatic Horror Screenplay Awards Season 5 at Filmmatic Horror Screenplay Awards (2021)
