At our monthly screenings, Saphlicks screens 3 diverse short films a month that amplify and uplift Sapphic voices within the LGBTQIA+ community. Through our New York based events, we foster connection and spark dialogue between Queer creatives in an accessible and unpretentious space. Following the screenings, there is be a Q&A session with the filmmakers and a mixer for Queer Creatives to meet and network.
Previous films that have been shown at Saphlicks include the viral Bodega by Sharik Geneve, the award winning Bumped by Mahaneela and Tops by Lindsay Perryman.
What does "sapphic" mean to us?
We use the term sapphic to describe characters who identify as women, nonbinary, trans, or gender-expansive—and who experience same-gender desire. In centering sapphic storytelling, our focus is uplifting narratives about on women loving women and other expressions of queer intimacy that exist outside of cis male-centered narratives.
***While we celebrate all forms of queer expression, our festival does not showcase films that center gay male relationships. We are intentionally creating a space for sapphic voices and visions that are often overlooked in broader LGBTQ+ programming.***
