Konstantinos Fragkoulis, director and screenwriter, organizer of artistic events in Samos island Greece, decided to create the association "Samotherium", inspired by a dream with the now extinct species and ancestor of the giraffe that actually lived in Samos returning to the island shouting through the sea. That's how Samos Cinema Festival started!
Samos Cinema Festival is a free-entry short film and documentary festival taking place on the island of Samos, Greece, born from a simple but urgent desire: to reconnect people with cinema as a shared, living experience. n an era of isolated viewing and endless scrolling, Samos Cinema Festival returns cinema to its most elemental form—a gathering of bodies, voices, and emotions in the same space, under the same light. The festival treats short films and documentaries not merely as screenings, but as poetic acts: fragments of truth, memory, and imagination that speak directly to the human condition.
Samos Cinema Festival is placed on a field of Olive Trees near the Sea to the East Samos. Is not about red carpets or industry noise. It is about listening—to filmmakers, to stories, to each other. Post-screening discussions, informal gatherings, and shared silence are as important as the films themselves.
