ligibility and Selection Criteria:
Exclusive Premieres:
Priority will be given to films that have not yet been shown in Italy or other European festivals, ensuring that the SIFF audience experiences fresh, innovative content.
International Diversity: The section seeks films from outside the European country of origin to maximize the diversity and range of storytelling perspectives presented at the festival.
Jury and Awards:
Popular Jury:
Unlike traditional jury panels comprised solely of industry experts, the World Cinema section will be judged by a Popular Jury. This jury will be made up of selected festival attendees, reflecting a diverse range of backgrounds and perspectives. This approach democratizes the judging process and aligns with the festival’s mission to make cinema accessible and relatable to all.
Awards:
Based on the verdicts of the Popular Jury, several prestigious awards will be assigned. These awards are designed to recognize and honor the creativity, insight, and craftsmanship of international filmmakers. The specific categories of these awards will be detailed in the festival’s program, ensuring recognition across various aspects of filmmaking.
Impact and Importance:
The Salento International Film Festival invites filmmakers around the world to submit their work to the World Cinema section and be part of a vibrant celebration of global cinematic art at one of Italy’s most anticipated film events.
Art. 4 - Film Selection and Scheduling
The selection of films for all sections of the Salento International Film Festival is personally curated by Artistic Director Luigi Campanile. With an extensive background in film and a keen eye for cinematic quality and relevance, Mr. Campanile's role is pivotal in shaping the festival's lineup. His expertise ensures that the festival showcases a diverse and compelling array of films that align with the festival's mission to celebrate international cinema and foster cultural exchange.
Selection Process:
Artistic Vision:
Luigi Campanile selects films that not only adhere to the festival’s high standards of artistic excellence but also reflect its thematic focuses on diversity, innovation, and social relevance. Global Representation: The selection aims to include films from a wide range of cultures and perspectives, providing audiences with a rich, educational, and entertaining cinematic experience.
Scheduling:
Optimal Timing:
Mr. Campanile also determines the screening dates for each film during the festival, organizing them in a manner that maximizes audience engagement and participation. This scheduling is carefully planned to ensure that each film receives the attention it deserves and fits harmoniously within the festival's overall flow.
Special Screenings: Attention is also given to the placement of premieres and special events, which are strategically scheduled to highlight key moments of the festival.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Subtitles must be clear, accurate, and professionally rendered to meet the festival's standards, ensuring that all narratives are accessible and understandable to the audience.

I attended in person from the U.S. The festival was wonderful, Gigi Campanile was very kind and attentive, and Tricase and the surrounding villages have an embarrassment of riches to offer. If you attend in person, make sure to leave time to explore the surrounding area. Just a wonderful experience!!

RESPONSE TU THE RESPONSE FROM FESTIVAL:
I am sorry to have to contradict you.
The film was already chosen and already announced in the programme when I told you about the 8 screenings in Salento.
I told you about it spontaneously because I was never asked for an exclusive on the screenings!
Screenings that were then far from your festival (200 km away).
You never took it out of the programme and I never 'insisted' that it be there.
You just withdrew it from the competition because you did not have her exclusive claim.
And all this without looking at the intrinsic value of the film.
I didn't react to the fact that it was no longer in the competition, because for me the important thing is that the film is seen, because it is a film for the purpose of social denunciation and active citizenship.
But even there I was disappointed, because it was scheduled at a difficult time for the audience.
Even the documentary that followed mine had no audience....
Regarding the reception of other festivals, as you ask, there have been 3 festivals in the last two years that have given the film a good reception, won prizes and paid expenses.
They are as follows:
Life After Oil in 2021,
Green Monténégro Film Festival (third prize), 2021,
ApuliaWebFestival, 2022, Green award.
The first two I was fully expenses paid and the third festival, I was invited to meals and seminars.
At all three, the reception was warm both on the part of the organisers and the audience.
Not to mention the contacts with professionals from the world of film and television.
It was enough to be happy and that is what I missed at your festival.
To my knowledge, I did not receive any invitations to seminars or even to communal meals at your festival.I am sorry if you know of any difficulties, of course cinema is currently going through a big crisis.
Perhaps many things will have to be changed.
But the medium matters little, it is the stories you tell that are important.Good luck to you!
Poor reception, no meetings, poor audience.
Apart from Rosalia, we saw no one from the festival and were offered no opportunity for professional meetings.
I hope this is only the case this year, but I left this festival with a feeling of having wasted time and money.Poca accoglienza, nessun incontro, pubblico scarso.
A parte Rosalia, non abbiamo visto nessuno del festival e non ci é stata offerta nessuna occasione di incontri professionali.
Spero che sia così solo quest’anno, ma sono ripartita da questo festival con un sentimento d’aver perso tempo e denaro.September 2022Response from festival:
Dear Tiziana,
I'm sorry to read your criticism even though you know very well that I had refused the film because for a couple of months you made screenings all over Salento and half of Puglia, but you insisted so much that in the end I gave in with a lot of perplexity. Yes, unfortunately it is true of your film, I was told, that there was no one watching it, but that is not true about the rest of the festival programme.
I also told you about the crisis that Film festivals are going through in this challenging and changing times, both at an economic level, and especially due to the lack of public at festival as well as all cinemas in general. And despite everything, we did not stop and we completed the 2022 edition with good success of public, especially in the evening. Out of 30 screenings, 19 had an average of 43 spectators for a total of 817 people, I don't think they were too few considering the period.I don't know what you expected and I would like to know which festivals you have attended in the last 2 years that have given you hospitality, reimbursed travel, meet distributors, professional meetings, seminars and more.
We did it before the pandemic, we have 20 years of history behind us and not only in Italy but also in 14 cities around the world.
I'm sorry you wasted your time and money! - September 2022
