Safflicks runs three annual Sapphic Film Festivals in partnership with Lesflicks. Founded in 2022 by Naomi Bennett, who has been running sapphic film festivals in the UK both in-person and virtually since 2016, our mission is to showcase authentic lesbian and bisexual shorts, features and series while supporting filmmakers by bringing their sapphic stories to a sapphic audience. After all festivals took a hiatus in 2024 and 2025, we are returning in 2026 with festivals for Women’s History Month (March), Pride Month (June), and our main October festival. With everything happening in the LGBTQ+ space, creating visibility for sapphic stories and nurturing a sense of community and connection has never been more vital.
SAFFLICKS WOMENS FILM FESTIVAL
After a few years hiatus, Safflicks returns in March to celebrate Women's History Month incorporating International Women's Day on 8th March.
A month-long festival of independent queer film! We’re shining a spotlight on trans, non-binary, lesbian, bisexual, and sapphic stories from around the world - films that explore love, identity, resilience, and community - and all things women! A joyful and affirming space for queer storytelling showing women loving women on screen, at a time when our voices matter more than ever.
The virtual festival will take place during March which is Women’s History Month and we will screen the audience’s favourite films at a special screening in London during Lesbian Visibility Week in April. In addition all chosen films will get priority access and exclusive royalty rates for release on Lesflicks once their festival run has completed (optional)
Women’s History Month runs every March in the UK and around the world.
WHAT WE ARE SEEKING
We are seeking up to 30 shorts, features and series which shows women loving women on screen, either a lesbian or bisexual storyline; or that portrays a cis, trans or non-binary lesbian, bisexual, asexual, polysexual character as a strong supporting character.
ELIGIBLE SUBMISSIONS
Film submissions are accepted by anyone who is creating authentic, positive sapphic storylines that show women (non-binary and trans-inclusive) loving women on screen.
2027 Festival dates:
The Virtual Film Festival runs 1-7 March 2026 (incorporating Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day on 8 March)
The in-person screening will run during Lesbian Visibility Week in London
