SF Queer Film Festival (SFQFF) seeks ground-breaking independent films by under-represented Queer storytellers. Unlike legacy LGBTQIA+ film festivals that often replicate industry hierarchies and gatekeeping practices, SFQFF exists as an alternative platform for bold, unconventional voices and out-of-the-box thinkers.

We do not disqualify films based on premiere status, release date, or prior exhibition history. Films are selected strictly on artistic merit, originality, and storytelling strength—not on reputation, industry connections, or recognizable names attached to a project.

At SFQFF, we believe every filmmaker deserves the opportunity to be seen and heard—especially those who challenge conventions, take creative risks, and push the boundaries of Queer cinema. Our programming reflects a commitment to innovation, authenticity, and voices that are too often overlooked by traditional festival models.

SFQFF is proudly by filmmakers, for filmmakers. Founded and run by working artists, the festival is built on a genuine understanding of the realities of independent creation—limited resources, personal stakes, and the courage it takes to tell stories that do not fit neatly into established molds. We exist to champion that courage.

Even though I couldn’t attend in person, a teammate and a couple of friends did and they had a great time! The venue was awesome, and their team was super welcoming.

Communication with them was smooth and professional throughout. Programmer Kevin did an amazing job helping to promote our screening to his thousands of IG followers, and he and co-founders Elizabeth and Amir were all very positive and enthusiastic about our film. They clearly care about the filmmakers and the stories being told.

This fest will only get bigger, better and more prominent. Highly recommend submitting!

I was amazed at the quality of the production of all videos submitted in the music video category! I met some great talented filmmakers, actors, singers and directors. It was a very successful edition of SFQFF, was my 2nd time attending and 1st time as a participant. My song 'Secret' was voted awarded Best Music Video by votes too, I'm so grateful and honored! Can't wait to see the festival grow even more, strength to strength and year by year!

  • This was such a wonderful opportunity. My short film "MILLIE IN CIS HELL" premiered at the SF Queer Film Festival, and I already have so many warm memories from this event. Kevin, Amir, Liz, George, Fernando, Maria, Inga, and the staff and team of volunteers were so helpful, knowledgable, and programmed a great curation. The "SMASH THE CISTEM" program block in which our project premiered was full of so many moving films. The "FEMALE POWER" lesbian films block was another favorite of my partner and I. There were some great opportunities to network after each block of films, too! I only wish that we had slightly more time for our Q&A's~ it felt like the other director's in the SMASH THE CISTEM block and I were really diving into some great topics, but it did have to be cut short for the sake of time (which is understandable). Truly an event I am so grateful for, and would highly recommend this festival to any queer filmmakers, especially those in the Bay Area.

Wasn't able to attend in person sadly but was so thankful to have had our world premiere at a festival that was so welcoming and supportive! The communication was great and I wish I could have seen the other incredible films in the festival lineup this year!

  • Top notch! From friendly and timely communication to social media support. This festival was curated with love and attention to detail. Our film “Clam Diving for Beginners” was promoted well on social media. I am delighted we were part of their line up.
