Rockaway Film Festival presents cinema and other arts at the coastal edge of New York City, joining artists and audiences for unique collective experiences.

Rules & Terms

We welcome submissions of all lengths, styles and genres. Our festival is embedded in the unique urban coastline of Rockaway and we consider the landscape when selecting our program. We seek films that shimmer and surprise.

We prefer films that were completed in 2025 or 2026. We also prefer films that have not yet screened in New York or been released online, but premiere status is not required.

Our festival takes a different shape each year. We carefully review every film submitted, but please note that much of our selection is curated through direct invitations in addition to open submissions.

Rockaway residents and RFF alumni submit for free, please email us for a waiver.

Every filmmaker who submits will automatically receive a ticket to any festival screening regardless of whether your film is selected.

    Seriously my favorite film festival in the NYC area. I highly implore everyone to submit, the Rockaway Film Festival team created a great space for people from the community to come together and appreciate some fantastic programming. Truly an amazing experience.

    I'm going to rave for a moment about this local festival by the sea in Queens, NYC. From the thoughtful curation to the incredible venues, I was completely enamored with what Sam and Courtney have put together. It's a local festival that punches well above its weight class. Sean Price Williams talk with Ed Lachman about a little shown documentary on Wim Wenders' State of Things was a real highlight. As was the light rain starting just as our short film screening began (indoors) creating a sort of magical and unique viewing experience for those I spoke with. Loved getting to walk the beach, and show our film, and to see so many great other films. Can't say enough about this festival, New York City needs it and we all appreciate you! Thank you for having us!
