About RE/STRICT
RE/STRICT is a film and art festival based in Detroit, Michigan, that celebrates kink as political resistance. In a time when censorship escalates, pleasure is criminalized, and bodies, especially queer, trans, and racialized bodies, are targeted, we spotlight work that’s been censored, suppressed, or ignored.

This festival isn’t about shock, it’s about truth. We feature work that power has tried to silence because it exposes what repression can’t control: desire, autonomy, and the refusal to disappear. Visibility is not neutral, it’s a confrontation.

All kink is political. It breaks down purity culture, disrupts systems of control, and insists on our right to define our own bodies and desires. Through film, performance, and visual art, we share stories that unmask control dressed up as morality, uplift those most often erased, and demand the right to feel, want, and exist on our own terms.

RE/STRICT is not a safe middle ground. It’s a site of storytelling, reckoning, and resistance. We platform artists who understand that eroticism is part of survival—and that pushing back against censorship is not a side note. It’s the point.

What We Showcase
RE/STRICT features film, photography, mixed media, and live performance that:

Confronts the criminalization of sex work, queer pleasure, and kink, and exposes the violence of moral panic.

Centers fat, queer, trans, non-binary, disabled, and BIPOC artists whose work is often erased, censored, or misunderstood.

Rejects exploitative porn tropes and flips the male gaze on its head—with agency, context, and desire at the center.

Dives deep into power, consent, and what it means to resist systems that treat bodies like threats.

Who We Are
RE/STRICT is led by artists, organizers, and cultural disruptors who understand that erotic art is essential, not a luxury. Where politics and pleasure don’t just coexist—they’re inseparable. Where visibility is a weapon against erasure.

We’re not here to cater to mainstream sensibilities. We’re here to amplify the voices that have been suppressed, censored, and overlooked.

All Kink. No Apologies. This is RE/STRICT.

SUBMIT YOUR WORK TO RE/STRICT
RE/STRICT is a one-night exhibition confronting the growing wave of censorship in the U.S. As politicians and institutions try to shut down honest expressions of sexuality, identity, and power, this show features film, photography, and performance rooted in kink. It makes space for work that is often labeled as “too explicit,” “too political,” or “too much” and presents it without apology, without dilution, and without compromise.

PLEASE NOTE: All work should challenge mainstream norms and center fat, queer, trans, non-binary, disabled, and/or BIPOC identities.

By entering your film or video for consideration, you attest that you are legally authorized to submit the work to RE/STRICT and that all necessary releases, licenses, and records have been obtained. You shall indemnify and hold RE/STRICT harmless from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including attorney’s fees and court costs) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening rescheduling or cancellation, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.

RE/STRICT reserves the right to remove a work from festival consideration and/or programming for any reason or for no reason, and shall not be liable for any refund or claims of any kind arising out of such removal. If your work is accepted, you expressly grant RE/STRICT the non-exclusive right and license to exhibit and utilize your film/video as described in these festival rules.
