Moving Theater is an initiative of "PORTRAIT OF A NATION”, an on-road journey of three artists with diverse art practices. Starting from the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean in Kanyakumari (Southern tip of India) to reach the mighty Himalayas of Kargil, touching villages, towns, big cities, metros and megalopolis, traversing diverse landscapes, seashores, pastoral agricultural areas, parched wastelands, plains, valleys, forests and mountains - its flowers, trees, wildlife, people, climate and the geography of India.

This journey is to unite, restore, and reinvigorate the country which has lately been hard hit by the just concluded 17th Lok Sabha elections in India, through sharing, caring and creating art together with children, women, men, the elderly and the disabled in rural and urban communities.

The rural area that PORTRAIT OF A NATION caravan travels is remote and underdeveloped regions of the country and hence access for children and the general public to films and especially documentaries are just a dream. With the Moving Theater initiative, we would like to screen the rural population the international films and documentaries - to show the other side of the world.

We are committed to screening two hours of films and documentaries to the rural audience from our caravan which will house the projection and sound equipment. The screening will happen for 40 days across India starting from Kanyakumari and ending at Kargil.

This screening is free for the public.

In this regard, Moving Theater invites Independent short filmmakers, documentary and feature directors to send their films on “Democracy, Unity, Diversity” and an interdisciplinary theme that consists of these keywords in a comprehensive sense.

Moving Theater is not a Contest or competition it is a social and not-for-profit initiative to bring all branches of film making to bond and celebrate unity, diversity, and democracy.

We are committed to screening two hours of films and documentaries to the rural audience from our caravan which will house the projection and sound equipment. The screening will happen for 40 days across India starting from Kanyakumari and ending at Kargil.

Once the PORTRAIT OF A NATION travel ends all selected films will become part of the larger exhibitions that will be curated along with other productions like paintings, photographs, and installations around India and possibly around the world.

Moving Theater is not a festival or competition, this is an initiative to show international films and documentaries to the children and the general public who otherwise have no access to these experiences.

– Film submissions from all genres of fiction and documentary, feature-length and short, around the world are accepted for consideration.

Films should cover Democracy, Unity, Diversity topics, but can certainly overlap with social, economic, political, spiritual, or other themes.

Films should have English subtitles.
