The PLANTPOP Film Festival is a short film competition focused on films about people and their relationship with plants.

What is PLANTPOP?

PLANTPOP is the world's first horticultural film studio. We make short documentaries about plants and how awesome they are.

For the past seven years, we've hosted a film festival awarding prizes to the best of PLANTPOP's commissioned filmmakers - and now we're opening submissions to the public!

**Final date of Festival is subject to change as our venue is confirmed.**

*Films from any category are eligible for the following prizes: overall, jury, story, cinematography, editing, and original score.

There is only one film selected per prize.

Best Overall: $3,000
Jury Prize (2nd Place/Honorable Mention): $2,000
Best Story/Message: $500
Best Cinematography: $500
Best Editing: $500
Best Original Score: $500

Best Documentary Film: $500
Best Narrative Film: $500
Best Art & Experimental: $500

In the simplest terms, we want to see films about plants.

We don't want films that cover environmental issues or the food side of plants. There are plenty of festivals that do cover these, and we want to stick to the aesthetic side of plants.

If your film answers the question of, "How have plants impacted someone's life?" or it would inspire the viewer with the beauty of plants, then it's something we want to see!

- All submitted films MUST be under 10 minutes (not including credits).
- Films must have been completed between September 2025 and the deadline.
- Please refrain from submitting films with any swearing, nudity, or politics. We also do not want films that deal with subjects such as the occult, satanism, witchcraft, voodoo, or blood-sacrifice stuff.

I had some of my films selected in the past few years and it's such a pleasure to be included in this festival. I sincerely thank you for giving so much recognition to plant films and to be encouraging us filmmakers to hunt for great stories around the theme. It feels so good to have a place like PlantPOP Festival to show the world the amazing docs we can make :)

The PlantPOP film festival is a truly unique festival. It's not only an opportunity to connect with other filmmakers and professionals interested in horticulture, but it's designed to be constructive and valuable to the process of making films about people and plants.
I am honored and humbled to be a multi-year festival winner, and I am truly grateful to the film festival producers for their vision and support. If films about the natural world and our relationship to it is your thing, these are your people.

Thank you, Mia! We look forward to seeing more of your work in the coming years!

  • This is a great Film Festival. What the owner and the organizers are building is a solid community of filmmakers and film lovers who really enjoy watching and discussing films. The venue of the festival was fantastic, the films were screened at a planetarium and we spent 2 days to watch films and share thoughts and new ideas. One of the best film festivals in the circuit.
