The Piney Woods Film Festival, held in Montgomery County, Texas, is a celebration of bold, independent cinema from around the world. Presented by Broadcasting Texas, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and rooted in Texas creativity, we proudly spotlight student, emerging, and established filmmakers while providing a vibrant space where stories from every background take root, grow, inspire, and thrive. Through film, we connect global voices with local communities—nurturing the next generation of storytellers and honoring the power of cinematic expression.

Our inaugural festival welcomed 132 film submissions from 20 countries, selected 64 Official Selections, and presented 25 awards recognizing excellence in filmmaking, storytelling, student achievement, and creative expression. More than half of all submissions came from student filmmakers, reflecting our commitment to supporting emerging talent and creating opportunities for the next generation of creators. The festival was made possible through the support of more than 40 sponsors, partners, and community organizations who share our belief in the power of storytelling.

Nestled on the western edge of East Texas' legendary Piney Woods, Montgomery County—home to The Woodlands, Conroe, Shenandoah, Willis, Spring, Tomball, Montgomery, and surrounding communities—offers more than scenic beauty. It is a region deeply rooted in nature, creativity, and connection. The Piney Woods Film Festival celebrates this unique setting, where towering loblollies and southern oaks provide the backdrop for stories that inspire, challenge, and unite. Here, Southern charm meets cinematic vision in one of Texas' most vibrant and welcoming communities.

The festival was founded by filmmakers and storytellers who grew up hiking, camping, and exploring these very woods—some even earning their Eagle Scout badges beneath the pine canopy of East Texas. Today, their children carry on that tradition, making memories of their own in the same whispering forests. With decades of experience in film, television, broadcasting, and production, our founders bring both seasoned industry knowledge and a heartfelt connection to the region. That deep-rooted passion for storytelling and place inspired the birth of this festival—a space where stories, like trees, are meant to grow strong, reach far, and leave a lasting impact.

Whether you're an award-winning filmmaker, a first-time student creator, an industry professional, or simply someone who loves great stories, we invite you to join us beneath the pines and become part of the next chapter of the Piney Woods Film Festival.
