RULES FOR FEATURE FILMS AND SHORT FILMS IN COMPETITION AT THE PIANETA MARE FILM FESTIVAL 6-10 OCTOBER 2026
Participation is open to national and international artistic works that, through the synergy between Cinema, Science, and Environment, use cinematography and videomaking to enhance the knowledge and education regarding the protection and importance of water, the sea, and the marine world. The narrative should focus on some or all of the following themes: the relationship between humans and other living beings and the nature we are all part of, the protection of biodiversity, sea and oceans, the marine creatures, the climate change issues.
Given the European Union's active role in protecting natural ecosystems, seas and oceans, and preserving marine biodiversity, the 2026 edition will see the awarding of three special prizes by the European Commission Representation in Italy.
Art.1 Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to works produced after January 1, 2025. An Italian premiere is a preferential element in the selection criteria by the Selection and Artistic Committees of the Pianeta Mare Film Festival.
There are three competition sections provided by the Festival:
* Feature Film
Documentary and narrative films, of any genre and type, over 52 minutes long, with a theme or story related to the marine environment, climate change issues, the sea and the protection of biodiversity.
* Short Film
Short films of any genre under 25 minutes long, with a theme or story related to the marine environment, climate change issues, the sea and the protection of biodiversity.
*Panorama Oltremare
Narrative feature films, of any genre and type, over 52 minutes long, with a theme or story set by the sea, lakes, rivers, islands, or with a special connection to nature and the environment.
*Focus Campania
Selection of short films of any genre under 25 minutes long, previewed in Campania with a particular relationship with the environment and territory.
In the case of selection, for screenings, the following will be required:
High-quality Mp4 file or ProRes 422 HQ with stereo or 5.1 audio or unencrypted DCP file. It is preferable that these files be sent via the web.
For selected films, those who have registered the films must also send:
- Film poster
- 1 Photo of the director
- Director's bio-filmography
- Film trailer
- 5 scene photos
- High-res poster in jpg, png, or tiff format of 300 dpi or more.
- Sheet with synopsis, year of production, country of production, format, duration, and main credits.
Art. 2 – Participation Methods
Registration of films and short films is possible on the FilmFreeway platform on the page dedicated to the Pianeta Mare Film Festival. Registration implies acceptance of the Festival's rules in their entirety. The juries responsible for the selection have the right to invite directors of films and short films of particular interest and value to submit their films to the competition by sending them to the email info@pianetamarefilmfestival.it. Registrations are open until July 31, 2026.
Films and short films received by July 31, 2026, will be accepted through the correctly filled submission form and the upload of video files at the link https://filmfreeway.com/PianetaMareFilmFestival or by writing to the email: info@pianetamarefilmfestival.it.
The same individual or legal entity can submit multiple works for selection.
Art. 3 – Selection Criteria
The films received will be evaluated by the Selection Committee and the Artistic Committee of the Festival, which will choose at its sole discretion the works to be admitted to the competition. The Artistic Committee is chaired by Gianni Canova and composed of Antonietta De Lillo, Valerio Ferrara, Gina Annunziata and Antonio Borrelli. Valerio Ferrara is head of programming.
The authors of the selected works will be informed by 11:59 PM CET on September 14, 2026, the day of the Festival's press conference.
The winners will be identified based on compliance with the eligibility criteria in Art. 1 and on the originality of content, visual vitality, clarity of message(s), and engagement ability, according to the unquestionable judgment of the committee.
Registration for the Festival implies the automatic authorization for the free use of excerpts of the work for a maximum duration of 3 minutes for promotional purposes.
Selected foreign films will be presented in their original version with possible Italian subtitles provided by the Festival organization. For foreign works, a dialogue list with timecode is required. For Italian films, subtitled versions in English are requested.
Art. 4 Jury and Awards
Two Technical Juries will be formed to evaluate the films in competition. They will be composed of personalities from the worlds of cinema, culture, science and environmental protection associations, as well as a representative from the European Commission.
The Technical Juries will award the following special prizes for a total amount of EUR 4,000.00, sponsored and organised by the Pianeta Mare Darwin Dohrn Cultural Association:
1) "Best Feature Film" Pianeta Mare Film Festival Prize of 2.000,00 euros for the best feature film in the "Feature Film" section awarded by the European Commission.
2) "Best Short Film" Prize of 1.000,00 euros within the "Short Film" section awarded by the Pianeta Mare Darwin Dohrn Cultural Association.
3) "Focus Campania Prize" of 1,000.00 euros for the best short film in the "Focus Campania" section awarded by the Pianeta Mare Darwin Dohrn Cultural Association
The winners will be announced on 10 October during the closing night of the Film Festival, which will take place at the Darwin Dohrn Museum in Villa Comunale in Naples.
Art. 5 Payment Methods for Monetary Prizes
The cash prizes referred to in Article 3 will be paid by bank transfer by the Pianeta Mare Darwin Dohrn Cultural Association.
Art. 6 Acceptance of the Regulations and Transfer of Rights
Participation in the competition implies the acceptance of these Regulations. The Festival Management can make decisions on matters not covered by these regulations. Those who register the works are personally responsible for the content and declare, by registering for the Festival, that they have fulfilled all obligations towards third parties arising from copyright. It is the exclusive responsibility of those registering the works to ensure they are legitimately authorized to do so by any rights holders. By submitting films to the competition, the Festival is exonerated from any liability.
The person registering the work also declares that they are not in a situation of incompatibility concerning the exclusion causes provided for by Articles 136 and 141 of Regulation (EU, Euratom) 2018/1046 of the European Parliament and of the Council of July 18, 2018, and agrees to cooperate as provided by Article 129 of the same Regulation.
It is the responsibility of those registering the works to ensure they are legitimately authorized to do so, having previously obtained the rights from all authors of the creative works used in the short film presented. In this regard, the person registering the work exonerates and agrees to indemnify the cultural association Pianeta Mare Darwin Dohrn, which oversees the Film Festival, the European Commission, and any other promoting body from any prejudice they may suffer as a result of claims or actions brought by third parties for reasons related to the use of the said work.
In case of winning the competition, the promoters are authorized to use - also in collaboration with other public entities - their work for institutional communication campaigns through any means (press, television, internet, social media), without territorial or temporal limits, explicitly excluding any commercial use of the work itself and waiving any other request, including financial, as all claims are considered satisfied through the opportunity to participate in the initiative.
If the music/soundtrack of the video was not created directly by the presenter of the work, a release from the author confirming the transfer of exploitation rights must be provided.
Works of a pornographic nature, inciting violence, discrimination, or violation of human rights are not admitted to the competition.
The person registering the film (if different from the author of the video) is considered the Project Manager and declares and guarantees to be of legal age (18 years old at the time of registration) and assumes the responsibility to be the legitimate representative authorized by all rights holders on the work. The declaration made by the person who signed the registration form therefore exempts the promoters from verifying the legitimacy of the same to register the short film, which will be considered ascertained, with exemption from any related liability.
All registration materials will be used exclusively for the proper management of the contest.
The selected works may be subject to events that will take place after the Festival, subject to agreement with the rights holders.
The calendar and screening times will be at the discretion of the Festival.
The event in question does not fall within the scope of prize competitions and operations, pursuant to Art. 6, paragraph 1 of the Italian Presidential Decree 430/2001. According to Resolution No. 8/1251 of 28/10/1976, the prize will not be subject to withholding tax. It is therefore the responsibility of the prize recipient to include the value of the award and the total amounts received for this purpose in their annual declaration for income determination purposes.
Pursuant to Legislative Decree No. 196/03 (Code regarding the protection of personal data), the data controllers of the personal data sent are the organizers of the Festival. They process personal data exclusively for participation in the Festival and for other information about their activities. The data is available for any correction or modification regarding its use.
For any disputes, the court of Naples has jurisdiction.
HOSPITALITY
The Festival will facilitate the presence of directors according to methods that will be communicated directly by the organization.

REGOLAMENTO FILM E CORTOMETRAGGI IN CONCORSO PIANETA MARE FILM FESTIVAL 6-10 OTTOBRE 2026
La partecipazione è aperta a opere artistiche nazionali e internazionali, che, nel segno del connubio tra Cinema, Scienza e Ambiente, utilizzino il mezzo cinematografico per valorizzare la conoscenza e l’educazione alla protezione e all’importanza dell’acqua, del mare e del mondo marino, mettendo, quindi, al centro della narrazione filmica alcuni dei seguenti temi: la relazione tra esseri umani e gli altri esseri viventi e la natura di cui tutti facciamo parte, la tutela della biodiversità, del mare e delle creature marine, l'impatto dei cambiamenti climatici, la salvaguardia dei mari e degli oceani.
Art.1 – Criteri di ammissibilità
Al concorso possono iscriversi e partecipare opere prodotte dopo il 1° gennaio 2024. L’anteprima italiana rappresenta un elemento preferenziale nei criteri di selezione da parte dei Comitati di selezione e artistico del Pianeta Mare Film Festival.
Tre sono le sezioni di concorso previste dal Festival.
* Concorso Lungometraggi
Film e documentari della durata minima 52 minuti
* Concorso Cortometraggi
Cortometraggi di qualsiasi genere della durata massima di 25 minuti
* Concorso Panorama Oltremare
Lungometraggi narrativi della durata minima di 52 minuti
* Concorso Focus Campania
Selezione di cortometraggi di qualsiasi genere, della durata massima di 25 minuti.
In caso di selezione, per le proiezioni saranno richiesti:
File Mp4 in alta qualità oppure ProRes 422 HQ con audio stereo o 5.1 oppure File DCP non criptato. È preferibile che l’invio dei suddetti file sia fatto via web.
Per le opere selezionate, inoltre, coloro che hanno iscritto i film dovranno inviare:
- Poster del film
- 1 Foto del/la regista
- Bio filmografia del/la regista
- Trailer del film
- 5 foto di scena
- High res poster in formato jpg, png o tiff da 300 o più dpi.
- Scheda con sinossi, anno di produzione, paese di produzione, formato, durata e credits principali.
Art. 2 – Modalità di partecipazione
L’iscrizione delle opere di film e cortometraggi è possibile sulla piattaforma FilmFreeway nella pagina dedicata al Pianeta Mare Film Festival. L'iscrizione presuppone l'accettazione del regolamento del Festival in ogni sua parte. I comitati responsabili della selezione hanno il diritto di invitare registi di film e cortometraggi di particolare interesse e valore ad iscrivere le loro opere al concorso inviandole alla email info@pianetamarefilmfestival.it
Le iscrizioni sono aperte fino al 31 luglio 2026.
Saranno accettati film e cortometraggi ricevuti entro il 31 luglio 2026 attraverso l’apposito formulario correttamente compilato e il caricamento dei file video al link https://filmfreeway.com/PianetaMareFilmFestival oppure scrivendo alla email: info@pianetamarefilmfestival.it
La stessa persona fisica o giuridica può iscrivere più opere alla selezione.
Art. 3 – Criteri di selezione
Le opere ricevute saranno valutate dal Comitato di selezione e dal Comitato Artistico del Festival, che sceglierà a suo insindacabile giudizio, le opere da ammettere in concorso. Il Comitato artistico è presieduto da Gianni Canova e composto da Antonietta De Lillo, Valerio Ferrara, Gina Annunziata e Antonio Borrelli. Il responsabile della programmazione è Valerio Ferrara. Gli autori delle opere selezionate saranno informati entro le 23:59 CET 14 settembre 2026, giorno della conferenza stampa di presentazione del Festival.
I vincitori saranno individuati sulla base della conformità ai criteri di ammissibilità di cui all’art.1 e sulla base dell’originalità di contenuto, vitalità visiva, chiarezza del/dei messaggio/i, capacità di coinvolgimento, secondo il giudizio insindacabile del comitato.
L’iscrizione al Festival comporta l’automatica autorizzazione all’uso gratuito di estratti dell’opera per una durata massima di 3 minuti per la diffusione a scopi promozionali.
I film stranieri selezionati saranno presentati in versione originale con eventuali sottotitoli italiani a cura dell’organizzazione del Festival. Si richiede per le opere straniere l’invio di apposita lista dialoghi con timecode. Per i film italiani si richiede, invece, di fornire versioni sottotitolate in lingua inglese.
Art. 4 Giuria e Premi
Per valutare le opere delle sezioni in concorso saranno costituite due Giurie Tecniche composte da personalità del mondo del Cinema, della Cultura, della Scienza e delle Associazione di tutela ambientale.
Le Giurie Tecniche assegneranno i seguenti premi speciali per un ammontare totale di EUR 4000,00 sostenuto dall’Associazione Culturale Pianeta Mare Darwin Dohrn:
1) “Premio Pianeta Mare 2025” di 2.000,00 euro al “Miglior Film” della Sezione “Concorso Lungometraggi” a cura della Commissione europea;
2) “Premio Miglior Cortometraggio 2025” di 1.000,00 euro della sezione “Concorso Cortometraggi” a cura dell'Associazione Culturale Pianeta Mare Darwin Dohrn;
3) “Premio Focus Campania 2025” di 1.000,00 euro al miglior cortometraggio della sezione “Focus Campania” a cura dell'Associazione Culturale Pianeta Mare Darwin Dohrn
I vincitori verranno annunciati in data 10 ottobre nella serata conclusiva del Film Festival che si svolgerà al Museo Darwin Dohrn in Villa Comunale a Napoli.
Art 5. Modalità di versamento dei premi in denaro
l premi in denaro di cui all’Art.3 saranno erogati tramite bonifico dalla Rappresentanza in Italia della Commissione europea e dall’Associazione Culturale Pianeta Mare Darwin Dohrn
Art. 6 – Accettazione del Regolamento e cessione dei diritti
La partecipazione al concorso comporta il rispetto e l’accettazione del presente Regolamento. La Direzione del Festival può prendere decisioni relative a questioni non previste dal presente regolamento. I soggetti che iscrivono le opere rispondono personalmente del contenuto delle stesse e dichiarano, con l’iscrizione al Festival, di avere adempiuto a ogni obbligo nei confronti di terzi derivante da diritti d’autore. È responsabilità esclusiva di chi iscrive le opere garantire di essere legittimamente autorizzati a farlo da parte degli eventuali aventi diritto. Iscrivendo i film al concorso, il Festival è manlevato da qualsiasi responsabilità.
Il soggetto che iscrive l’opera dichiara altresì di non trovarsi in situazione di incompatibilità in relazione alle cause di esclusione previste dagli art 136 e 141 del Regolamento (UE, Euratom) 2018/1046 del Parlamento europeo e del Consiglio del 18 luglio 2018 e di acconsentire alla cooperazione come previsto dall’art 129 del medesimo Regolamento.
È responsabilità di chi iscrive le opere candidate garantire di essere legittimamente autorizzato a farlo avendo preventivamente ottenuto i diritti da tutti gli autori delle opere creative utilizzate nel corto presentato. A tal proposito, il soggetto che iscrive l’opera manleva e si impegna a tenere indenne la l’Associazione Culturale Pianeta Mare Darwin Dohrn che cura il Film Festival, la Commissione europea ed ogni altro soggetto promotore da qualsiasi pregiudizio che dovesse subire in conseguenza di richieste o azioni avanzate da terzi per ragioni connesse all’utilizzo della suddetta opera.
In caso di vincita del concorso, si autorizzano i promotori ad utilizzare - anche in collaborazione con altre entità pubbliche - la propria opera per attività di campagne di comunicazione istituzionale attraverso qualsivoglia mezzo (stampa, televisione, internet, social media), senza limiti territoriali né di tempo, escludendo esplicitamente ogni utilizzo commerciale dell’opera stessa e rinunciando a qualsivoglia altra richiesta anche economica, essendo ogni pretesa da considerarsi soddisfatta attraverso l’opportunità di partecipazione all’iniziativa.
Qualora la musica/colonna sonora del video non sia stata creata direttamente dal presentatore dell’opera, è necessario fornire apposita liberatoria dall’autore che confermi la cessione del diritto di sfruttamento.
Non sono ammesse al concorso opere di natura pornografica, incitanti alla violenza, alla discriminazione o alla violazione dei diritti umani
Colui che iscrive il film (se persona diversa dall’autore del video) viene considerato Referente del progetto e dichiara e garantisce di essere maggiorenne (maggiore età: 18 anni di età al momento dell’iscrizione) e si assume la responsabilità di essere il legittimo rappresentante autorizzato da tutti gli aventi diritto sull’opera. La dichiarazione resa dal soggetto che ha sottoscritto la scheda di iscrizione esonera quindi i promotori dalla verifica della legittimazione dello stesso a iscrivere il corto, che si intenderà infatti come accertata, con esenzione da ogni relativa responsabilità.
Tutti i materiali di iscrizione saranno utilizzati esclusivamente ai fini della corretta gestione del contest.
Le opere selezionate potranno essere oggetto di manifestazioni che si svolgeranno successivamente al Festival, previo accordo con gli aventi diritto.
Il calendario e gli orari delle proiezioni, saranno a discrezione del Festival.
La manifestazione in oggetto non rientra nel novero dei concorsi e delle operazioni a premio, ai sensi dell’art 6 comma 1 del Dpr 430/2001 della normativa italiana. Ai sensi della Risoluzione n.8/1251 del 28/10/1976 il premio non verrà assoggettato a ritenuta alla fonte. Resta pertanto a carico del percettore del premio l’obbligo di comprendere il valore del riconoscimento e le somme complessive a tale titolo conseguite nella propria dichiarazione annuale ai fini della determinazione del reddito.
Ai sensi del Decreto Legislativo n. 196/03 (Codice in materia di protezione dei dati personali), i titolari dei dati personali inviati sono gli organizzatori del Festival. Gli stessi procedono al trattamento dei dati personali esclusivamente per la partecipazione al Festival e per altre informazioni sulle proprie attività. I dati sono a disposizione per qualsiasi correzione o modifica relativa al loro utilizzo.
Per ogni eventuale controversia è competente il Foro di Napoli.
OSPITALITÀ
Il Festival favorirà la presenza dei registi e delle registe secondo modalità che saranno comunicate direttamente dall'organizzazione.
