The Phu Lae International Animation Festival is a vibrant celebration of animation and digital art, nestled in the charming and culturally rich city of Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand. Inspired by the unique and resilient "Phu Lae" pineapple – small in size but bursting with distinctive flavor, much like the burgeoning Thai animation scene – our festival aims to showcase the power, creativity, and potential of animators from Thailand and across the globe.

Chiang Rai, renowned for its artistic spirit, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality, provides the perfect backdrop for this exciting event. As a city that embraces diverse art forms, from traditional Lanna crafts to cutting-edge digital creations, Chiang Rai offers a unique and inspiring environment for creators and enthusiasts alike.

More than screenings, we offer an Animation Award for emerging talent, Master Classes, Workshops, and Seminars led by industry experts. We aim to connect and inspire a global community of animators in the inspiring backdrop of Northern Thailand.

The Phu Lae International Animation Festival is organized by Sputniktale Studio. We have a history of hosting the Local Thailand Animator Festival for seven editions since 2012. Phu Lae 2025 marks our inaugural international event.

Rules & Terms

Submission Guidelines:

Free Submission:
There is no submission fee to enter the Phu Lae International Animation Festival. We believe in providing equal opportunities for all filmmakers.

Unlimited Creative Freedom:
Technique - All animation techniques are welcome, including 2D, 3D, stop motion, motion graphics, experimental animation, and more.
Content - There are no restrictions on the subject matter or genre of your film. We encourage diverse and thought-provoking storytelling.

Open to All:
Age - Filmmakers of all ages are encouraged to submit their work.
Nationality - The festival is open to animators of all nationalities and from any country.

Recent Productions:
Films must have been completed within the last five years, with a completion date of January 1st, 2021, or later.

Ownership Warranty:
The submitter (Director, Producer, or Authorized Distributor) must hold all legal rights to the submitted work. The film must not infringe upon the intellectual property, copyrights, trademarks, or privacy rights of any third party.
Screening

Authorization:
By submitting, the creator grants PULAE the non-exclusive right to screen the film during the festival period and its official touring events without any screening fee liabilities.

Promotional Usage:
The festival reserves the right to utilize film stills, trailers, posters, and excerpts (not exceeding 10% of the total running time or a maximum of 3 minutes) for non-commercial promotional, educational, and public relations purposes across all media channels.

    I had such a great time at the Phrae International Animation Festival!

    The setting near the beautiful nature of Chiang Rai was amazing, and everything was so well organized. The staff were not only super helpful and professional, but also incredibly warm and thoughtful. I felt really cared for the whole time.

    I loved meeting so many talented animation creators, and the energy and conversations we shared were truly inspiring.

    The ceremony and screenings were lovely, and the wonderful trip they arranged for us was so much fun — plus, it gave me so many ideas for future projects!

    Thank you so much for making this such a special experience. I’d love to come back again!
