The second year of the Peterborough Shorts Showcase promises to be exciting. Featuring local filmmakers, including those living in the area, from the area, or that have filmed in the Greater Peterborough Area. The festival will take place on Sunday, November 10th, 2024 at 12:30 PM at Market Hall Performing Arts Centre in Peterborough, ON. The festival will be open to all ages however subject matter may not be appropriate for all ages.
The festival is currently engaged in securing festival sponsors. If sponsors are secured, we may be able to award small prizes however no prizing is guaranteed to be offered outside of the title award. This information will be updated as the festival date approaches.
The following rules govern all film submissions to the Peterborough Global Shorts Showcase (“PGSS” or the “Festival”)
Please Note: Peterborough Global Shorts Showcase does not invite films to be in competition. Only films that are submitted will be considered for competition.
GENERAL ELIGIBILITY
- MAXIMUM FILM LENGTH IS 15 MINUTES INCLUDING CREDITS.
- Film submissions open May 16, 2024, at 12:01am, and close September 15, 2024 at 11:59pm. All times in the Toronto, Ontario, Canada time zone.
- Submissions are limited to 3 submissions total across all categories. If more than 3 films are submitted, only the first 3 submissions will be considered. Entry fees are non-refundable in any circumstance.
- All films must be in English or have English subtitles at the time submitted.
- Submissions must be submitted as an online streaming video via a participating submission platform (FilmFreeway). DVD submissions are not accepted.
- In the event of a password change or link change after submitting, you must email the Festival at ptboshorts@gmail.com immediately with that change so we may update your record. If the Festival is not notified of the change and the link is found to be inactive, the submission may be deemed ineligible.
- PGSS screens films as digital files during the Festival and does NOT screen films on Blu-Ray, HD-CAM, or DCP. If you are unable or unwilling to provide us your film as a digital file for exhibition, DO NOT SUBMIT your film.
- Films must be available for screening during the Peterborough Global Shorts Showcase on November 10, 2024 at 12:30 PM EST.
- Films produced, financed or initiated by a major film studio or television network are ineligible for competition. Selection for screening will be determined no later than one month prior to the festival. Films that have screened on network or cable television or distributed to theaters prior to the festival dates are also ineligible for competition.
- Private invite-only screenings (for instance for cast and crew or donors) do not affect a film’s eligibility.
- PGSS reserves the right in its sole discretion to reject or disqualify any entry.
ORIGINALITY AND PERMISSIONS; INDEMNITY
- Films must be the original work of the applicants. If a film is based upon another person’s life or upon a book or other underlying work, applicant(s) must secure any necessary rights to make such adaptations. However, it is not necessary to submit the adaptation rights agreements to the Festival. Neither the Festival nor its jurists investigates or attests to the authenticity of an applicant’s statement of authorship or rights secured. By entering the competition, you represent that you have secured all necessary rights.
- Applicants are solely responsible for obtaining all necessary rights and permissions for third-party materials included in their films, including but not limited to music, trademarks, logos, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights. PGSS expressly disclaims all liability or responsibility for any violations of the foregoing.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Films that have not received a full color edit, or sound edit are eligible for submission. PGSS prefers picture-locked submissions for the consideration process. All final films must be provided by September 15th as, if accepted, those are the films that will be considered for judging.
- You MUST include your physical address either in your entry or in your cover letter. Please do not submit a film without giving us your address, which we need for our records.
- PGSS always strives to ensure that participants and audience members are comfortable, however PGSS is not responsible for events beyond our control, including power outages, riots, zombie outbreaks, and/or eclipses. SELECTED FILMS AND WINNERS
- PGSS has no obligation (other than as stated in these rules or on our website) to disclose any of the following information: i) identities of screeners or judges; ii) notes, feedback, or information relating to the submitted project; and/or iii) details regarding the submission review or selection process.
- By entering your film, you are agreeing to the usage by PGSS of brief clips from your films in PGSS promotional material.
- PGSS explicitly disclaims any liability or responsibility for any comments, notes, or opinions expressed about a submission, whether by PGSS or by its volunteers or judges.
- Winners will be announced on November 10, 2024, at a live showing event of films selected for the festival. The judges’ decision is final.
- Where applicable, winners receiving cash prizes are solely responsible for payment of all applicable local, provincial, and federal taxes. Any cash prizes will be awarded in Canadian dollars. Monetary prizes are not guaranteed.
