All works that fall within the category of experimental are considered. Work is accepted from around the world and in any language. Foreign language films are screened with English subtitles. The generation of subtitles is the responsibility of the filmmaker. While the festival is primarily short films, works of all duration are considered. Features are accepted, though typically only one or two will be screened per festival. Works created from as early as 2022 are eligible for submission. If your film precedes these dates, it may also be submitted if it has not had an official screening.
The yearly festival will have both an in-person festival and an online run.
Peripheries now also hosts a monthly screening series of contemporary experimental film & video, submissions for which are gathered from a separate submission field. Work submitted to the yearly festival will not be in consideration for the monthly screening and vice versa unless a submission is entered through both submissions. There are no restrictions on duplicate submissions of the same work in both fields or multiple works from a filmmaker. The same eligibility criteria follows for the monthly screening, including the acceptance of feature-length works. Submissions for the monthly showcase remain open in perpetuity, though will not be visible on the FilmFreeway platform until submissions for Peripheries 2024 comes to an end. For submitting to the Monthly Showcase during the festival submission period visit our submission form on the Sweet Void Cinema Website, or contact us at submissions.peripheries@gmail.com.
Works will be screened digitally. If your project is intended to be screened on film reach out to Peripheries upon notice of acceptance to discuss feasibility.
Filmmakers who have shown work at Sweet Void Cinema’s monthly shorts fest are offered waived submission fees. If you are included in this group submit via the form on SVC’s website instead of the FilmFreeway platform and include a film you have shown and when it was screened.
