Patricio Escartín Murillo is a Mexican filmmaker and a graduate of the National School of Cinematographic Arts at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (ENAC-UNAM). As part of his training, he completed an academic exchange at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom. His work is characterised by an atmospheric approach that explores the landscapes of the mind —memory, dreams, and imagination— often blurring the boundary between reality and fantasy.
In 2024, he directed "The Noise of Time" (El ruido del tiempo), a documentary short that achieved wide international circulation, screening in 19 countries, and accumulating more than 50 festival selections, including the Images Festival (Canada), the VGIK International Student Film Festival (Russia), and the Istanbul International Architecture and Urban Films Festival (Turkey). The film received eight awards and was included by El Universal among “The Best of Mexican Cinema in 2024.”
He is currently completing "Paintings in the Mist" (Cuadros en la niebla), a dystopian science-fiction short film centred on memory, while developing a medieval fantasy short exploration of imagination as his graduation project. He is also the co-founder of Bentleigh Films, a production and distribution company through which he develops new cinematic and audiovisual projects.
