The Okotoks Film Festival has been in the past a five-day international festival held annually in the town of Okotoks. (located in Alberta, Canada, just south of Calgary). We are entering our tenth year of the festival, and as such, this year the festival will be 10 DAYS LONG! We are thrilled to support filmmakers and give the opportunity for audiences and filmmakers to connect. Our growing festival has seen films from as near as down the street to as far as Japan and India!! We pride ourselves on being a filmmaker-first festival. We have many events and opportunities for filmmakers selected into our festival, as well as in-person public screenings. We can't wait to see what you, as filmmakers, surprise and delight us with this year.

This festival is a LIVE IN-PERSON PUBLIC EVENT at the Okotoks Cinemas.

We had a huge success with audiences during our unique online only festivals (2020 and 2021) and would like to create a Hybrid festival, both Online and in Person. For this reason, each film that is submitted will be asked if you would like to be considered for online screenings as well. The answers to this question has NO influence on the likelihood of your film being selected, it just lets us know how to consider your film. We will be selecting a collection of films to play at both online and in-person. Every film in our festival will get an in-person screening. We understand that many films are looking for premieres and/or are not ready for their films to be available online. We will never consider a film that requests an in-person-only screening for online and selecting that option will not reduce your chances of playing at the 10-day in-person live festival.

Workshops will be run during the festival along with a number of networking events.

Here are some of our Filmmaker Perks:
Two artist festival passes, which give free access to all screenings and workshops during the festival (including the online festival).
6 tickets to the screening of their film.
invited to attend a Filmmaker Brunch on the Sunday of the Festival.
Take part in our Filmmaker Instagram Takeover leading up to the festival.
Join our online speed networking event.

We are looking for films in ANY GENRE for our general screenings. We have a number of unique packages and are looking for a wide variety of genres and messages.

Each year we will be creating a short films package from a specific country (This country changes each year). This year, the selected country is BRAZIL. Please submit as a Country Highlight if your film was shot in or is made by filmmakers from that country.

The first two weeks of submission are FREE TO ALL SHORT FILMMAKERS. (Sept 1-Sept 19)

Submission is always free to films from the Municipal District of Foothills No. 31. If you believe your film qualifies as a Foothills Film (made in or by filmmakers from the Municipal District of Foothills No. 31) please e-mail info@okotoksfilmfestival.ca for information on how to submit.

**YOUTH SCREENING: Youth Filmmakers living in the Foothills (or with a connection to the foothills) are asked to submit their films for a unique local youth screening. Selected films will get a mentorship meeting with industry professionals. The Youth Screening will include a full gala, including Red Carpet, Awards, and snacks. Youth films are any film with a director under 18.

O.F.F. also runs a 48-hour filmmaking challenge. For more information, visit our website.

  • We are deeply honored and grateful that Wetsitales: The Sun and The Moon (Visayas) has been chosen as an Official Selection of the Okotoks Film Festival in Canada. This recognition means so much to us, as it gives our story from the Visayas a chance to reach new audiences and celebrate the richness of Filipino oral tradition through animation. Thank you to the festival for welcoming our work and for creating a space that champions diverse voices and unique cultural experiences. We proudly share this milestone with everyone who continues to support independent storytelling and Philippine folklore on the global stage.

Had a great time at OFF!

My short film was selected to screen as part of the "Filmmakers to Watch" package and was screened alongside the "Next-Gen" films as well. I feel honoured to have been able to show my film alongside so many talented filmmakers, many of whom local.

And apart from the screening, OFF hosted other events like a filmmaker breakfast meetup and an online networking event were I was able to meet with filmmakers from around the world.

Huge thank you to Katie and the entire OFF team for putting on an amazing festival and for having me and my film a part of it!

  • I had an amazing time at Okotoks Film Festival. Though I had pretty bad social anxiety, the organizers, which included Katie's family, went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We flew in from Toronto and had no car, so Katie's sister Gabe shuttled us around to the airport and the festival. The screenings were often preceded by an appropriately themed cultural performance or discussion that added value to the experience. It was an excellent way to spend a couple days. It's not a huge festival but I think it punches above its weight.

Special shoutout to the super cool antique shop behind the cinema.

  • Thank you Katie and team for running another truly excellent edition. Grateful to be invited for the second time, first in 2018 with Fatal Rhapsody and now in 2025 with Lupe Q and the Galactic Corn Cake. It's wonderful to feel the Okotoks like a family and away from home. Thank you and long live OFF!

We were truly honored to have our short film One Click screened at this amazing festival. The crew looking after the festival were friendly, accommodating, patient and just made the whole thing a really fun experience. We hope to be accepted back next year. Highly recommend this festival.
