Join us at the Mildmay Club in May for the first ever OffBeat Folk Film Festival!

The OffBeat Folk Film Festival will take place from the 12th-18th of May in London at venues including the Mildmay Club in Newington Green, and the Walthamstow Trades Hall. Among the film screenings, we will also host talks, performances and a Q&A with some of the filmmakers.

This is the first folk film festival in the UK and we are looking for the best films about heritage, folk and working culture in Britain. We welcome emerging and established filmmakers to apply and are looking for documentary, narrative, experimental or music videos that take a closer look at underground British culture. This could be a film about the Mari Lywd to a profile of your local pub. If you’ve been to one of our screenings in Walthamstow you know we love archival documentaries, so we welcome old films as well as new.

All films will be entered into the main competition for best film.

All films must be the original work of the filmmakers, and all filmmakers must have the necessary rights.
The submitter agrees that the festival will use trailer, poster, stills and promotional material upon selection and nomination.
No completion date requirements, but we’re keen to see work from new filmmakers so will prioritise films made in the last 5 years.
Film content must be about Britain or Ireland.
No premiere requirements.
