The ๐—ก๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ต ๐—ช๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—œ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—™๐—ถ๐—น๐—บ ๐—™๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—น (๐—ก๐—ช๐—œ๐—™๐—™) was launched in 2025 to fill a cultural gap in the city of Preston, Lancashire.

Now in its second year, ๐™‰๐™’๐™„๐™๐™ is a celebration of British short films from all over the UK, with a curated programme of screenings taking place in June.

The 3 core aims of the festival are:

1. To showcase innovative and thought-provoking British shorts
2. To be accessible for filmmakers and audiences alike
3. To champion emerging voices in the art-form of filmmaking.

There are two submission categories:

- ๐—ฆ๐—›๐—ข๐—ฅ๐—ง ๐—™๐—œ๐—Ÿ๐—  - ๐—™๐—œ๐—–๐—ง๐—œ๐—ข๐—ก
- ๐—ฆ๐—›๐—ข๐—ฅ๐—ง ๐—™๐—œ๐—Ÿ๐—  - ๐——๐—ข๐—–๐—จ๐— ๐—˜๐—ก๐—ง๐—”๐—ฅ๐—ฌ

Short fiction films can be of any genre (Drama, Comedy, Horror etc.). Animations are eligible to be submitted in this category. The maximum runtime for both categories is 15 mins (including credits).

We particularly welcome low/no budget films. We fully respect and champion filmmakers who go out and create with whatever resources they have.

We were sorry to miss the event in person, but the organisation and communication were genuinely great. The programme looked thoughtful and well put together. A festival weโ€™d gladly return to in the future.

This was a great festival! Really cosy and contained but just the right length I think! The location was really nice, in a pub, can't go wrong, and it really felt like the organisers cared about local filmmaking.
I will definitely be coming back next year!

  • The NWIFF is honestly brilliant. From the moment you receive the message for selection the communication from the team is outstanding all the way up to the event and even after with bonus information. On the weekend the venue was packed both days and the selection and quality of each film was top notch. All film makers were there and also a fair amount of general public film fans. Overall everything about this festival was 5 star and I would highly recommend everyone to submit there film to it. Thanks again to Martin and the team and keep up the good work.
