Nicolas Tung is a Taiwanese-born American filmmaker specializing in cinematography, visual effects, drone piloting, and unconventional storytelling currently based in Orange County, California. Inspired by the storytelling potential of motion pictures, he decided at the age of 8 that his future would be in the film industry, and he has never wavered in pursuing such ambitions- initially creating short movies with his friends and younger sister.
Moving to California in 2018, seeing the opportunities available to him, Nicolas began his filmmaking education in an official capacity to reach his goal of integrating the art of motion picture into his life, entering the film production magnet program of the Digital Media Arts Academy at El Dorado High School in 2019 where he serves as an executive film producer and has since logged thousands of hours on film sets of various degrees- in both high school and college short films and independent feature film productions. He currently studies film and television production with a cinematography emphasis at Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University in Orange, CA.
Nicolas' films are known for their carefully crafted, emotionally and artistically expressive, and often extravagant cinematography. Creative and strategic experimentation is the name of the game, Nicolas is never afraid to embrace the hardest of challenges with open arms or adapt new creative methodology and technical expertise into his cinematic workflow. Noted for his tenacious work habits on film sets, Nicolas always approaches each task with a professional attitude and refuses to back down until a solution is to be found. Nicolas aspires to eventually have a full-time career within the film industry; he is, therefore, determined to attempt to make every shot of every single film he shoots look its best.
In his personal life, Nicolas, despite spending the majority of his time brainstorming and planning his next film project, enjoys the favorite pastimes of many of his age, such as playing video games or watching movies, as well as niche hobbies like astrophotography, film photography, participation in 48-hour film challenges, and being an owner of two cockatiels, Pudding, and Cola.
