After the success of our first East vs West Midlands Showcase in 2023, we are delighted to announce that we'll be hosting our second edition on 4th May 2024.

Once again, we will be screening a selection of short films, half of which will represent the East Midlands with the other half representing the West.

This is a friendly, supportive (and slightly competitive!) event bringing both of the UK's Midlands regions together

The event will take place at Derby QUAD 2pm - 6pm on 4 May 2024, and will include our film screening followed by our awards presentation and networking.

Nexus Cast & Crew Network CIC is a not-for-profit organisation and we operate a ‘Pay What You Can’ policy on all event tickets. Due to previous FilmFreeway listings being overwhelmed with ineligible submissions from all over the world after setting no submission charge, we have had to charge a small fee for submissions to our EvW Showcase as we our resources are too limited to filter through so many looking for eligible submissions. Please be assured that 100% of this income will be cycled into covering the costs of this event, or 2025's edition.

Awards & Prizes

There will be three prizes up for grabs on the night:
- Best West (voted by audience members from the East)
- Best East (voted by audience members from the West)
- Best Overall (decided by our invited judging panel on the day)

Rules & Terms

- Films must be no longer than 20 minutes in length
- Films must have been completed in 2021 or later
- A maximum of 1 film can be submitted per writer or director
- Must qualify as a 'Midlands film' as per our eligibility criteria set out below

MIDLANDS ELIGIBILITY
Your film must meet at least TWO of the following eligibility criteria:
- 51% or more of the film's lead creatives (writers, directors, producers) currently reside in or have spent more than half of their lives living in the Midlands
- 51% or more of the film's crew/post-production team currently reside in or have spent more than half of their lives living in the Midlands
- 51% or more of the film's cast currently reside in or have spent more than half of their lives living in the Midlands
- 51% or more of filming took place in the Midlands

No refunds will be issued for films that are disqualified due to not meeting the above terms and criteria.

We are taking submissions through FilmFreeway only. Any submissions sent to us via email will not be included in the selection process.

    What an absolute EVENT 🥰 We had the best time at Nexus; a quality selection of films and a proper good laugh of a day.
    Hospitality was great and the networking and awards afterwards were packed and a lot of fun. Little touches like hiring a BTS photographer for the day and the ‘pitch up’ section really make this event stand out. Thank you so much to Emmeline, Camille & Poppy for such a great day ❤️🎬🎥
