We are very proud to offer a youth component to the NIFF for youth 19 years or younger. The youth festival will be included in the Newark International Film Festival body but will be governed by a separate group, to ensure that the youth are treated fairly and have the same opportunities available to the professional filmmakers in the Newark IFF. We accept works from filmmakers aged 19 or younger for the Youth Festival component. Youth filmmakers may submit both to the Youth Festival and to the main Newark International Film Festival competition if they choose to.

Rules & Terms

Submissions must be made by filmmakers 19 years old or younger at the time of the creation of the film, series or screenplay and created in 2022 or later. Submissions may include but are not limited to:

--documentaries
--narrative films
--series episodes
--screenplays
--music videos
--PSAs

ALL FILM MAKERS MUST HAVE PROOF OF ID

Teachers submitting student work are expected to follow their District's guidelines and rules for legal releases and subject matter related to minors.

    It was great to be featured at this festival - the quality of the official selections were outstanding, so it was surprising to get in. They did a great job running this virtually, but communication was a bit confusing at times.

    Nice festival overall. The festival did very well with the limitations of virtual, although it was lacking a bit in communication. My film won the Best Actress Award, and we have yet to hear of any updates for getting our trophy. We've contacted them repeatedly but still haven't heard anything.

    Was thrilled to be accepted, but unfortunately after that there was very little communication and the website was not updated, nor their Facebook page, so there was nothing to link to. An entry in the resume but nothing more. For those that participated in the in-person part of the festival, it looked supportive.

    Great Experience, Great Festival and Great Community. Still, we are very disappointed in the extremely poor communication between us and the Festival. Won award for best actor and haven't received our trophy nor heard anything from the festival since, despite trying to contact them several times....
