In recent years, Muslims have increasingly taken ownership of their narratives in media, telling our own stories with authenticity, nuance, and care. The New York Muslim Film Festival exists to celebrate that creative shift and to provide a dedicated space in New York where these stories are centered, honored, and shared on our own terms.

This festival is rooted in joy. We aim to uplift heartwarming, thoughtful, and life-affirming stories that reflect the fullness of Muslim life — from love and humor to resilience, tenderness, and community. By creating a welcoming and celebratory environment, we hope filmmakers and audiences alike feel seen, connected, and inspired.

Our mission is not only to showcase films but also to foster joy, dialogue, and a sense of belonging through storytelling. Muslims are a vast diaspora, comprising numerous identities and diverse lived experiences; therefore, there can’t just be one kind of Muslim story told. Every kind of Muslim deserves their story told and all Muslim stories are diverse, expansive, and worthy of celebration.

The New York Muslim Film Festival is a one-day celebration of cinema bringing filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences together to experience a thoughtfully curated lineup of films highlighting diverse Muslim stories and perspectives. The event will begin with a meet-and-greet reception, offering filmmakers the opportunity to connect with industry professionals, followed by the festival’s official film screenings.
