New Westminster International Film Festival is the flagship event of the New Westminster Film Society—a lively, three-day celebration of independent cinema held every October at the Landmark Cinema in the heart of New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada.
Festival Dates: October 23, 24, 25
Founded in 2011, the New West Film Fest is dedicated to promoting local film and supporting the vibrant creative voices within our community and from all over the world. We are committed to uplifting filmmakers from marginalized and minoritized communities whose stories and perspectives have historically been underrepresented in the film industry. By creating space for these voices, we aim to foster a more inclusive and dynamic film culture that reflects the full diversity of our community and internationally.
Core Values
• Accessibility: Making film experiences inclusive and reachable for a broad audience.
• Creativity & Artistic Quality: Championing films that are bold, original, entertaining and thought provoking.
• Community Engagement: Encouraging dialogue and connection among audiences through shared film events and year round screenings.
• Inclusion & Impact: Focusing on films and events that reflect diverse perspectives and inspire discussion or action.
• Respect for Local Indigenous Lands: Acknowledging that the New Westminster Film Society activities occur on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples (Qayqayt and Kwikwetlem First Nations) with gratitude and respect.
We are an entirely volunteer run 3-day festival.
