NewFilmmakers NY is New York's longest running year round Film Festival.

Events are held weekly at Anthology Film Archives, 32 Second Avenue New York, NY

NewFilmmakers screens roughly 700 short and feature length projects throughout the year grouped into special interest nights. Some of our ongoing programs include NewLatino, Middle East, Christian Sex, Upcoming Women, Experimental, and Crime & Punishment. NewFilmmakers is an international series with an eye towards films shot in the tri-state (NY - NJ - PA) and surrounding areas.

Throughout it's 23 year run NewFilmmakers has provided a platform for first time and veteran filmmakers. This doesn't need to be your first film to submit to NewFilmmakers. Some of the films we have had the pleasure of screening include Indie Spirit Award winner "Too Much Sleep," "The Blair Witch Project," and Academy Award winner "Mr. Hublot".

Quarterly Audience Choice Awards for Feature, Short, Documentary, and Webseries along with Honorable Mentions.

Enjoyed playing at NewFilmmakers NY. We were due to screen just as the pandemic hit and they quickly and successfully pivoted to a virtual event. Communications were frequent and clear. Virtual screening had a great vibe. Hope to attend in-person soon!

It wasn't quite what we signed up for, but pandemic... what can you do? NewFilmmakers NY has gone above and beyond to make the best of it and to try to create as vibrant a community/festival flavor as they can. The programming overall is strong as well. Recommended.

    Response from festival:

Many thanks for your kind words. The online has been great but we still miss meeting people and their friends.

  • At this moment, our film screened online - through NewFilmmakers NY's Facebook page - because it isn't safe yet to be in enclosed spaces during COVID. Thank you for the opportunity to do so - I'm grateful. Hope to play with NewFilmmakers again, in person, once it is safe to do.

It's hard to review a festival during these coronavirus times but having participated in my first online festival premiere experience, I'd have to say that NewFilmmakers NY put on a show about as good as any festival could put a show on, online. The lineup was awesome and the quality of the screening was great. I'm looking forward to the day we're able to sit in a theater and experience it at the live venue, as the courtesy of a rescheduling has been extended to us. I'm glad I submitted to this festival. It's been a great experience so far.

    Response from festival:

Many thanks. We look forward to getting back into a theater. The online response has been great but it is so much better to have live screenings.

We will be screening all the films we screened online in the theater once everything opens up.
