New Favs was started by a group of creatives with years of experience in the film and television industry. During a time when artistry is being stifled by out of touch corporations and GenAI, we felt it was important to create a space for independent filmmakers to promote their art and network with other artists. New Favs could be where you find your new favorite film/director/actor, or it could be where you find your next creative partnership! We want this to be a supportive community for artists who have not had the opportunities, connections, or resources of the ones who often get spotlighted by festivals. This is a place for DIY, up and coming filmmakers to be seen, appreciated, and discovered.
More specifically, New Favs was founded by a filmmaker who has gone through the often demoralizing process of submitting to festivals, and knows firsthand how frustrating it is when some festivals end up being illegitimate, and do not have artist's best interests in mind. New Favs was created partly out of frustration from some of these negative experiences, and we can reassure submitters that every single film will be watched, appreciated, and heavily considered. Even if not chosen for our in person screening, many of our submitted films will still be highlighted on our social media. We want to change the short film festival space, and make it more encouraging and authentic.
Your short film could become someone’s new favorite, and inspire them to make art in the process, just as you have been inspired by your own favorite movies. Submit your short film today!
HOW IT WORKS:
A select number of films will be chosen as “Official Selections” to be screened at our festival in Brooklyn NY. The filmmakers will be notified by us via email. In order to honor more of our favorite submissions and spread awareness for your films, we will also post the semi finalists and finalists on social media and here on our website, in the weeks proceding the announcement of our official selections.
Submissions are open for anyone in the US but we highly encourage submissions from people local to New York and surrounding areas. As this is our first year of the festival, attendance at the screening from our selected filmmakers is an important part of building this community, and would be greatly appreciated.
There will be a Q&A with the filmmakers and an awards ceremony after the screening. Every film submitted will be eligible for the awards.
