  • I had the honour of attending the 3rd annual New Bedford Film Festival, and it was a blast!

I received BEST SCREENWRITER FOR A STUDENT FILM for my environmental sci-fi short film 2389: Coming Home.

Big shout out to the festival for organising script scene reads for the nominated screenplays! It was really wonderful to see another set of actors performing a key scene from my film and to see it from a different angle!

Huge thanks to the organisers and especially to Ethan de Aguiar for bringing together the whole New Bedford community to support filmmakers from Massachusettes and beyond!

I got to spend 4 incredible days with filmmakers from the region as well as international folks who travelled to New Bedford from across the world!

Really appreciated getting to know more filmmakers from New England, and enjoyed continuing exploring that region! Meeting fellow filmmakers is the most valuable experience any film festival can provide and it is a place for meeting future collaborators and life long friends!

Even though it's only been its 3rd year - it felt much bigger and much better organised than a lot of older festivals that have been running for longer!
Huge thanks again, till the next time! I really hope I get to come back!

  • This was our first time submitting and attending New Bedford Film Festival and now we will ALWAYS submit for this fest! What a FANTASTIC week! Tons of inspiring Panels, which also included us filmmakers/directors/actors. The film selection was incredible and each block was better than the next. The thoughtful awards, the fun afterparties, we could go on and on. We felt the love and are so honored to have wrapped up our festival circuit for A Trapdoor, here, at New Bedford Film Festival. Also, we are still beaming that we won two of our four nominations, Best Screenplay and Best Actress! Until we meet again, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I had a great experience at the New Bedford Film Festival. Ethan de Aguiar and his colleagues rolled out the red carpet and made visitors feel welcome. The festival has a grassroots vibe and folks care about the work. Being selected by the festival and nominated in two categories, Best Short Documentary and Best Subject, made a difference. Fifty seven folks from my community made the drive to attend the screening and my subject Mike McDevitt was there in person to collect his Best Subject award. The buzz helped us sell out every screening of The Last Islander in my hometown. To date, we have raised $10,000 for the Hull Lifesaving Museum, $2000 for the Hull Yacht Club junior sailing program, and more for Disabled Veterans through the Nantasket Beach Salt Water Club. We also saved Mike's sister Crissy's house from the wrecking ball. A lot of good came from this project. The New Bedford Film Festival made a difference and I am grateful for their work.

We were honored to have both Galilee and The House of the Seven Gables screen at the 2026 festival, and were blown away by the organization and care of the team. Only in its third year, this is a stellar festival and one to watch!

A benchmark festival to which all other festivals should aspire.
The warmth, the enthusiasm of everyone involved, heartfelt support of the local community made me glad I crossed the Atlantic. It felt more like a family reunion that a competitive festival.
The selections were top notch, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of films submitted by regional filmmakers.
The irritations of so many festivals - transactional nature and competitive one-upmanship were noticeably absent.
I'm especially grateful for the advice and insights of Seth, whose submission comments instigated a major re-edit and rebranding, which caused festival acceptance of The Country Gentlewoman to skyrocket..
    Well done, guys.
