The Navarra International Film Festival (NIFF) provides a platform and recognition for creators of fiction, documentary, and animated films. It is recognized as a qualifying festival for the Goya Awards of the Spanish Film Academy, a qualifying festival for the Fugaz Awards (the Goya Awards for short films in Spain), and is rated by IMDb.

Since its first edition in 2019, NIFF has promoted social debate by addressing themes that place people at the heart of its mission, such as the state of the planet and its inhabitants, migration, feminism, diversity, and integration. Through these initiatives, the festival seeks to raise awareness and foster social values, confronting a lack of commitment and giving voice to a wide variety of opinions and perspectives.

Through its various sections and awards, NIFF promotes Regional, National, European, Ibero-American, and International films.

El Festival de Cine de Navarra -NIFF- (Navarra International Film Festival) da espacio y reconocimiento a los creadores de cine de ficción, documental y animacion. Es reconocido como Festival calificador para los Premios Goya de la Academia de Cine de España, Festival calificador de los Premios Fugaz (los Goya del cortometraje en España) y es un Festival calificado por IMDb.

Desde su primera edición en 2019, NIFF promueve el debate social al abordar temáticas que sitúan a las personas en el centro de su propuesta, tales como la realidad del planeta y sus habitantes, las migraciones, el feminismo, la diversidad y la integración. A través de estas iniciativas, el festival busca generar conciencia y fomentar valores sociales, enfrentando la falta de compromiso y brindando voz a una amplia variedad de opiniones y perspectivas.

(*1) WELAB Award - a direct discount of €2,000 on camera equipment. This discount applies to the rental of audiovisual equipment, including cameras, lenses, and accessories from the Welab catalog. Equipment must be available on the application date. Welab may offer similar or superior equipment if the requested equipment is unavailable. The award is valid for up to two (2) years. The production company is responsible for the cost of transporting and insuring the equipment.

(*2) To be eligible for the NIFF Gold Award for Best Short Film from Navarre, the film must meet at least one of the following requirements:
• Be directed or produced by a person born in Navarre.

• Have been filmed substantially or entirely in Navarre.

• Be produced by a company based in Navarre.

• Be directed or produced by someone who has resided in Navarre for five consecutive years or seven non-consecutive years.

The jury's decision for each award is final.

Winners agree to mention the award received in future screenings.

Attendance at the awards ceremony is mandatory for winners. If the director cannot attend, any of the team leaders may attend in their place.

Descuento en alquiler de equipos audiovisuales de cámara, lentes y accesorios del catálogo de Welab. Los equipos deben estar disponibles en la fecha de solicitud. Welab podrá ofrecer equipos similares o superiores en caso de que no haya disponibilidad de los solicitados. Se dispondrá de hasta tres (2) años para disfrutarlo. El transporte y seguro de los equipos corre por cuenta de la empresa productora.

(*2) Para optar al premio NIFF de Oro al Mejor Cortometraje de Navarra, debe cumplir al menos uno de los siguientes requisitos:
• Ser dirigida o producida por una persona nacida en Navarra.
• Haber sido rodada en parte sustancial o en su totalidad en Navarra.
• Ser producida por una empresa radicada en Navarra.
• Ser dirigida o producida por alguien que haya residido en Navarra durante cinco años consecutivos o siete alternos.

La decisión de los jurados en cada premio será inapelable. 

Los galardonados se comprometen a mencionar el premio recibido en futuras proyecciones. 

La asistencia a la gala de entrega de premios es obligatoria para los ganadores. Si el director no puede asistir, puede acudir cualquiera de los jefes de equipo.

RULES 8 NIFF 2026

1. General Rules and Sections

The eighth edition of the Navarra International Film Festival - NIFF 2026 is now open for submissions. It will be held in Pamplona from September 7 to 11, 2026.

Participation is open to all short films, both Spanish and international, produced and completed from January 1, 2025 onwards, with a maximum duration of 40 minutes (including credits).

All genres (fiction, animation, documentary, experimental), themes, and original formats are accepted.

Short films in competition must not have been submitted to previous editions of the festival.

Submissions must be made by a person, organization, or company that owns the rights or acts as their legal representative. This entity will be responsible for the copyright payments generated by the works.

2. Online Registration and Fees

To participate in the 8th Navarra International Film Festival (NIFF) 2026, films must be registered through the festival's official platforms: Festhome or FilmFreeway.

The registration period will begin on February 1, 2026, and end on May 15, 2026.

The registration fees are as follows:

• National Official Section:

◦ Regular Period (February 1 - May 31): €5

• International Official Section:

◦ Early Period (February 1-15): €5

◦ Regular Period (February 16 - March 31): €10

◦ Extended Period (April 1 - May 15): €15

• New Generation and CortoJoven Sections:

◦ Early Period (February 1-15): €1
◦ Regular Period (February 16 - March 31): €3
◦ Extended Period (April 1 - May 15): €5

Participants must provide screening copies of their works in their original version. If the language is not Spanish, Spanish subtitles must be embedded in the image. This requirement is essential for evaluation by the selection committee.

3. Selection

The Selection Committee, composed of audiovisual professionals, will be responsible for selecting works for the different sections of the festival. The organization will communicate the final result by email to the designated contact.

If a work is selected, the representative will be asked to submit the necessary promotional material. The screening copy must be sent within the required deadlines and formats, exclusively online, in digital format.

The technical specifications are:
1. Master Full HD (1920 x 1080) at 25 or 24 fps, H264 codec with an average bitrate of 10 MBPS or higher. Audio: AAC 48Hz 320 or stereo.

2. Trailer.

3. Layered poster and 3 or 4 stills from the short film.

Screening copies will be in the original version, with Spanish subtitles if the language is different. Selected works may be used in limited screenings and in showcases of the Festival's Awards, for cultural and non-profit purposes, after prior notification to the producers.

The films will be screened according to the schedule and locations established on the festival's official website (www.navarrafestival.com). Participants authorize these screenings upon registration.

By registering and accepting these rules, the owners of selected works grant the festival the right to screen them for cultural and non-commercial purposes for one and a half years after the event, always notifying the owner of their use.

4. Sections

4.1. National Official Section:
This section will have its own jury that will award prizes independently. A Spanish short film is defined as one produced in Spain, co-productions with more than 40% Spanish participation, and works directed by Spanish filmmakers, regardless of the country of production.

4.2. International Official Section:
This section will have its own jury that will award prizes independently. An international short film is defined as one produced abroad, co-productions with less than 40% Spanish participation, and works directed by foreign filmmakers, even if they were produced in Spain.

4.3. New Generation Section:
This competitive section aims to promote audiovisual creation among young people. Works created by young people between 18 and 30 years old are eligible, with a maximum duration of 10 minutes, not including credits.

4.4. Young Short Film Section:
This category is for short films up to 3 minutes long, made by young people aged 14 to 30, in vertical and horizontal formats. The finalists will be screened at the festival, and the three winners will receive prizes of €300, €200, and €100, respectively.

The criteria for this section are similar to the general ones. Young Short Film will have a specific jury.

6. Acceptance of the Rules and Data Protection Law

Registration implies acceptance of these rules and the decisions of the organization, the selection committee, and the jury. Any unforeseen issues will be resolved by the organization.

The organization reserves the right to reject entries that do not meet certain criteria.
The organization guarantees that personal data will be processed in accordance with Organic Law 15/1999 on the Protection of Personal Data.
Prizes with a monetary award will be subject to the withholdings or taxes stipulated by law.

BASES 8 NIFF 2026

1. Normas generales y secciones

Se convoca la octava edición del Festival Internacional de Cine de Navarra - NIFF (Navarra International Film Festival) 2026, que se celebrará en Pamplona del 7 al 11 de septiembre de 2026. 

La participación está abierta a todos los cortometrajes, tanto españoles como internacionales, producidos y realizados a partir del 1 de enero de 2025, con una duración máxima de 40 minutos (incluyendo créditos).

Se aceptan todos los géneros (ficción, animación, documental, experimental), temáticas y formatos originales.

Los cortometrajes en competición no deben haber sido presentados en ediciones anteriores del festival.

La presentación de las obras debe realizarse por una persona, organización o empresa que posea los derechos o actúe en representación legal de las mismas. Esta será responsable de los pagos de derechos de autor generados por las obras.

2. Inscripciones Online y Tasas

Para participar en el 8º Festival Internacional de Cine de Navarra (NIFF) 2026, las obras deberán inscribirse a través de las plataformas oficial del festival: Festhome o FilmFreeway

El período de inscripción comenzará el 1 de febrero de 2026 y finalizará el 15 de mayo de 2026. 

Las tasas de inscripción son las siguientes:

• Sección Oficial Nacional:
◦ Período Regular (1 de febrero - 31 de mayo): 5€

• Sección Oficial Internacional:
◦ Período Temprano (1-15 de febrero): 5€
◦ Período Regular (16 de febrero - 31 de marzo): 10€
◦ Período Extendido (1 abril - 15 de mayo): 15€

• Secciones New Generation y CortoJoven:
◦ Período Temprano (1-15 de febrero): 1€

Los participantes deberán proporcionar copias de visionado de sus obras en versión original. Si el idioma no es el español, deberá incluir subtítulos en español incrustados en la imagen. Este requisito es esencial para la evaluación por parte del comité de selección.

3. Selección

El Comité de Selección, compuesto por profesionales del ámbito audiovisual, será responsable de la selección de obras para las distintas secciones del festival. La organización comunicará el resultado final por correo electrónico al contacto designado. 

Si una obra es seleccionada, se solicitará al representante la entrega del material promocional necesario. La copia de proyección deberá enviarse en los plazos y formatos requeridos, exclusivamente de manera online, en formato digital. 

Las especificaciones técnicas son:
1. Master Full HD (1920 x 1080) a 25 o 24 fps, códec H264 con un bitrate promedio de 10 MBPS o más. Sonido: AAC 48Hz 320 o estéreo.
2. Tráiler.
3. Póster en capas y 3 o 4 stills del cortometraje.

Las copias de proyección serán en versión original, con subtítulos en español si el idioma es diferente. Las obras seleccionadas podrán ser utilizadas en visionados limitados y en muestras del Palmarés del Festival, con fines culturales y no lucrativos, previa comunicación a los productores.

Las películas exhibidas seguirán el horario y lugares establecidos en la web oficial del festival (www.navarrafestival.com), autorizando los participantes estas proyecciones al inscribirse. 

Con la inscripción y aceptación de estas bases, los titulares de obras seleccionadas ceden al festival el derecho a proyectarlas con fines culturales y no comerciales durante un año y medio tras el evento, notificando siempre al titular sobre su uso.

4. Secciones

4.1. Sección Oficial Nacional: 
Esta sección contará con un jurado específico que otorgará premios de forma independiente. Se considera cortometraje español aquel producido en España, las coproducciones con participación española superior al 40%, y obras dirigidas por cineastas españoles, independientemente del país de producción.

4.2. Sección Oficial Internacional: 
Contará con un jurado propio que otorgará premios de forma independiente. Se considera cortometraje internacional aquel producido en el extranjero, coproducciones con participación española inferior al 40%, y obras dirigidas por cineastas extranjeros, aunque se hayan producido en España.

4.3. Sección New Generation: 
Esta sección competitiva busca fomentar la creación audiovisual entre jóvenes. Podrán participar obras realizadas por jóvenes de entre 18 y 30 años, con una duración máxima de 10 minutos, no incluyendo los créditos.

4.4. Sección CortoJoven: 
Categoría para cortometrajes de hasta 3 minutos, realizados por jóvenes de 14 a 30 años, en formatos vertical y horizontal. Los finalistas se exhibirán en el festival, y los tres ganadores recibirán premios de 300€, 200€ y 100€, respectivamente.
Los criterios para esta sección son similares a los generales. CortoJoven contará con un jurado específico.

6. Aceptación de las Bases y Ley de Protección de Datos

La inscripción implica la aceptación de estas bases y las decisiones de la organización, el comité de selección y los jurados. Cualquier cuestión no prevista será resuelta por la organización. 
Se reserva el derecho a admitir obras que no cumplan algunos criterios. 
La organización garantiza que los datos personales serán tratados según la Ley Orgánica 15/1999 de Protección de Datos de Carácter Personal. 
Los premios con dotación económica estarán sujetos a las retenciones o impuestos que estipule la ley.

    While I was unfortunately unable to attend the festival in person, I was thrilled to have my short stop motion animation Cell Buddies, screen at Navarra IFF. The communication from the festival team was fantastic throughout the entire process, and they made me feel incredibly welcome even from afar. I was so excited to see my film included in such a thoughtfully curated lineup of shorts.

    The festival did a wonderful job of promoting the films on social media It's clear that the team behind the festival has a true passion for independent cinema and for supporting filmmakers. I sincerely hope to be a part of it again in the future and to be able to experience the festival firsthand. Thank you so much for everything!

    I was so honored to be selected to NIFF with "Fear Not Fear Itself"! I was not able to attend, but it looked fantastic...I closely followed their festival coverage on social platforms.
