The pandemic has gifted us with a new perspective on everything including films. With it, we are even more committed to connecting our audiences with filmmakers in new ways to create positive change and inspired action.
Due to Covid 19 the NYSIFF will be screening online for two weeks. Local, national, and international 50 short films will be available to watch online between September 25 - October 8, 2020! If our venue opens before September, there will be our regular two day screening at The Linda Performing Arts Studio and we will still go online this year.

The New York State International Film Festival is located in the heart of New York, Albany!
Over the first 4 years, we have screened 284 short films from all around the globe.
We have connected filmmakers with their audiences through short films each year, and we'd like to thank everyone for joining us! We continue to aspire to become one of the greatest film festivals in the nation. We are an international short film festival. The festival invites people from all over the Capital Region of New York and all over the world. Everyone is welcome to submit their short-films. We support students and first time filmmakers too. We encourage all types of documentary, animation, drama, comedy, experimental, music videos and horror short films. Films will be viewed during the festival by the public. • i really enjoyed this festival! i was welcomed heartily, and made to feel that my film and my appearance at the festival mattered and were appreciated. i first sat next to a group of filmmakers who were only interested in their own film (not in networking), so i moved and sat next to someone else who was open and friendly. it turns out we both have films in another upcoming festival, so we'll see each other again. although the festival was 2 days, awards were given out each day for those present, which made sense and was rather exciting. (mine was for Best Comedy.) the audience was responsive, and asked good questions during the Q&A. this was the first time i had seen my film with an audience, and they laughed a lot in all the right places (and some i didn't expect). it was very fulfilling to hear that laughter. i would highly recommend any filmmaker who does comedy to attend any festival they can that their film is in. i do have one suggestion for the festival: an intermission halfway through would have been nice, as some people might have taken more advantage of the time for a bathroom break and to eat some food. i appreciated that the Q&A's were done after each film, rather than at the end of all the screenings. i connected with two animators who had made amazing films. there was great variety of the films, and i applaud the festival for choosing such diverse films. it gave the audience a chance to see films they might not see in other festivals or online. three cheers for NYSIFF!

The hospitality at the event was great and there was a prominent sense of community as well. It was a wonderful group of short films and independent filmmakers.

However, I feel this festival does not quite meet the grandeur that is implied by its title. The event felt scrapped together. I've never attended a film festival that hosts 20 short films within one screening without a single intermission.

It was a bizarre experience, but the networking opportunity was well worth the attendance.
