Thanks to the popularization of camera-mounted drones, independent filmmakers can now reach an aesthetics of mainstream productions, and break with image creation constraints such as never seen before in the history of digital cinema!
A whole new path in the art of moving images is yet to be explored!
NO AR Brazil showcases and awards artists who are resorting to this new device to create breath-taking imagery and innovative visual languages.
Submissions are curated by highly-recognized media professionals from TV, film and photography industries, besides scholars from Brazilian, Canadian, Mexican and French universities. Nominated filmmakers are invited to join the jury board for a debate during the awards ceremony.
Palácio das Artes, a public iconic art venue signed by Brazil’s foremost architect Oscar Niemeyer, located right at the heart of Belo Horizonte, is the regular host of NO AR.
But as Cine Humberto Mauro, the four-decade movie theater located within the palace, could not host our projections due to covid-19 pandemic, NO AR has switched to a joyful online ceremony, which allowed filmmakers from several countries to attend.
Its blasting success gave us a lot of energy to build up a hybrid format (with online and big screen). The effort it takes to deploy such a project , added to the importance the festival has gained, have led us to an important decision: to transform NO AR into a biannual event.
Our purpose is not to be a mere repository of beautiful drone footage. We are here to question the paths that drone can propose to art.

Free submission coupons will be offered to Brazilian creators, and to women creators from everywhere. Discount coupons will be offered to filmmakers born and based in Latin American and African countries. Apply to the limited coupons sending per-email a film link to email@example.com with the subject NOAR4coupon .

All films must be 5 minutes or under in length (time limit will vary according to category), including credits, unless when differently stated.
At least 50% of the film must be shot using a drone or UAV.
We also welcome films about drones or which bring drones as characters, in the "Documentary & Videojournalism","Fiction", and "Brazil" categories - in this case, at least 10% of drone footage is required.
▪ Language & subtitles
Films in any language are welcome.
ENGLISH subtitles in SRT format are required for any spoken or verbal film, no matter if the speeches are in English language or if there is an existing subtitle rendered over the video.
SRT format is mandatory, otherwise subtitles cannot be translated to PORTUGUESE.
Translation to Portuguese can be provided by NO AR Brazil production upon the charging of a fee.

By entering your film for consideration for NO AR International Drone Film Fest Brazil you authorize that your work is cleared for festival exhibition and accept full legal responsibility for the intellectual property therein. Entry into the Festival constitutes permission to exhibit your work at NO AR International Drone Film Fest Brazil.
NO AR International Drone Film Fest Brazil reserves the right to use excerpts of the film for promotional purposes only, including but not limited to broadcast on TV or the internet.
The person submitting the Film (hereafter called the "Applicant") acknowledges that he or she has obtained consent from any and all owners, creators, writers, actors, producers and/or other authorized representatives of the Film whose consent is required to submit the Film to the Festival.
It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to secure authorization and permission from the copyright owner(s) of any and all copyrighted content or materials included within the submitted Film. Festival organizers reserve the right to make exception to any of the rules at their discretion.
